Ok.
Let me just start of with to tell you that I'm
no master in this field, but I have some good knowledge about it ...
If you mean cell phone text msging, you need an SMS mailer or spammer. The problem is it is illegal as hell and even with proxies you will be traced back through your affiliate company. They do not want the heat on them, so they will turn your info over to the feds. In theory the idea was awesome 4 or 5 yrs ago when you could find the automated software to send out hundred's of thousands each day, problem is the cell phone companies come after you in a hurry.
...
Right to the spot. I can confirm that this is correct.
I've been involved in something like this before, so I know a little bit about the subject.
I heard of this more often called "Mobile Marketing" than text message marketing.
Also read it's to be one of the biggest growth areas in advertising.
...
Jepp, I can confirm that this is correct to.
"Mobile Marketing" and "SMS Marketing" would be an other term to search for to get a lot of good information.
Has anyone ever heard of text message marketing? i trying to find software that will market my affiliate program thru text messages...anyone came across something like this?
Well, let me just tell you that it is possible. BUT...
Your facing two problems:
1. Cost
Do you think this is free? Let me tell you it's not
* You need to establish a "
SMS Gateway" to accomplish mass sms send outs. This is expensive. I
think the cost for this would be around $20,000 (but it's about 1,5 yrs since I checked this.)
In stead of buying or establish a "SMS Gateway" your self you could "hire" one. This would work like a Co-op with others. You could do this through some of the medium to big telecom companies (not all offer this kind of service).
* The second aspect of this is that you will get charged for every SMS you send out. This will not be a big amount pr sms but if you send out 10,000 sms's the $'s quickly add up!
* There is actually also possible to do a co-op with someone that already is in a co-op (has a contract) with a telecom company. You will then just get billed more for the sms's you send out. But on the other side you would not have to deal with a lot of technical aspects of co-op or the SMS Gateway it self.
2. Targeting the right people to get a good response..
You just can't send out a bunch of sms's. That would kill your financials
* The best way to do this would probably be to get your customers to opt-in to a form where they also leaves their nr, and you have to state in your privacy terms that you will send them sms's after this.
* Or you could use "reverse sms"/get the prospect to send your system an sms and now you could send him sms's (.."reverse sms" was mentioned earlier in this thread)
NOW THE FUN STUFF AND COST EFFECTIVE WAY TO DO SOMETHING SIMILAR
"Mobile Marketing" and "SMS Marketing" is one thing but something that is almost similar, way more cost effective and easier is "Bluetooth marketing" and "WIFI Marketing" and also "WAP Marketing".
This is the better way to get your "sms"/message into a person?s mobile device/PDA/laptop and things like that...
NB: This is permission based marketing. Prospects say yes/no to marketing.
A "
bluetooth gateway" would cost you from $200-$2000
Depends if you want one that can be carried around as a belt or one you hook up with electricity and a internet connection so you could edit messages from home and send out with a push of a button
And This comes with user friendly software that you could run on your pc. Childs play!
Of course here the reach/range would be a problem with bluetooth.
* With a normal bluetooth range you could get people from 10-20meters in radius. This range expands everyday as the technology gets better.
* With WAP and WIFI (wireless internet) you could reach even longer!
Think about this:
Where I live (in the main capital of Norway, Oslo) where there is living aprox. 500.000 people + a lot of people come into the city everyday for work and stuff like that... A cinema tested the response of bluetooth last year (when the new Superman flick were released). They found that a lot of people have bluetooth turned on all the time
Now, I can't remember the exact numbers but I think it was something like this:
And this is for one day guys...
* Pushed bluetooth messages on people passing by the cinema: 100.000
* Messages received and downloaded: 90.000
* Acceptance: 90%
The message they sent out was something like this: "Do you want to be Superman?"
If the prospect clicked "Yes" on that message he would receive a Superman logo
These bluetooth gateways are intelligent.
The gateway remembers the IMEI# of the phone for recognition (I think it was the IMEI#, not sure now. hehe... )
You can load the gateway up with as many messages as you want (Message A, B, C...) and you could serve them one at a time.
For instance if a guy accepts message A, the next time he passes by the cinema he would receive message B and so on ... If he didn't choose to accept message A you could also tell the gateway to never send this message to this person again, ... or just re-send it the next time he walks by
(... bluetooth spam .. hehe...)
Now, there's a lot of things you could do with this...
You could load up your gateway with all formats of a known cell phone:
? Text [.txt files]
? Pictures [GIF or JPG files]
? Animations [Animated GIF files]
? Sound/Audio [WAV, RMF, MP3, MP4 and Ringtone files]
? Video [RM, 3GP and MP4 files]
? vCard [Business Card files]
? vCal [Calendar Event files]
... got your imagination floating? Think of what you could do with this! Hehe.. Especially if you live in a big city.
My personal favorite is the last one:
vCal
Now back to your original post
astradamasta
With this you could target your market more.
Push out the bluetooth message to all that walks by. Ask them something. I don't know what your niche is but as an example: "Want to get rid of your back pain the easy way?"
Prospect clicks Yes/No.
If "Yes" you send him a "vCal" !!
The cool thing here is that you could set the time and date when this will activate ... jepp, just like a worm/virus
lol ... So when would your prospect be most likely to sit in front of a computer? At 09.00 PM ! lol ... Alarm goes of and your v-calendar will show a message and your URL!
So, if the prospect originally clicked "No" on your bluetooth message? What then? Remember that the bluetooth gateway remembers the IMEI#, you could just tell it to never send that message to that person again, in stead you could send a new message: "Want to know how to bake a cake?" Yes/No? (or something like that) ... you see? It doesn?t stop with one message. You can constantly feed the mobile device a new message
P.S: This could be used for personal marketing use or for bigger commercial use. If you want to know more about this you could also google "hotspot" or "whatspot".
(This is spots where a commercial company has placed out bluetooth and wifi access points. Most WIFI actually, for surfing the internet.
But you can get a good read if you google that...)
RESOURCES : Ok, So where to get these Bluetooth Gateways?
For bluetooth devices you could carry around and push out messages every where you go - one of these:
Code:
- http://www.ad-pods.com/ad-pods.html
For a HOTSPOT - one of these:
Code:
Hope that helps.
(May be I would get my first "thank you" for this? lol ...)
