Territorial domain or General domain?

I am about to buy a new domain for Portugal that is .pt but, my question is what is better for me? If I want to positionate on Google Portugal a website with the domain .pt or .me? I just cannot decide because some people say is better the regional one but, other say its better the generic one.

Can someone please advise me?
