They definitely deserve their own section on BlackHatWorld.
Telegram is the best communicator already and it's becoming social media. I cannot use Whatsapp or Messenger anymore, because they look so outdated and dull compared to Telegram.
The broad amount of functions and user-building tools like bots. It's the best app to maintain the community. The tendency of recent updates (like stories and posts) are showing that Telegram is heading towards becoming a truly social platform and not only a communicator. I think in the future they will add short videos like TikToks or reels. Another reason that this is getting closer to social media status is that it's so convenient to maintain the information flow. My friends from Ukraine are searching for news on Telegram and many politicians from post soviet union countries are using Telegram as a blog and legible source of information.

I wonder why not many Americans and people from the west are using Telegram?

Others might have the better security but lack all the other benefits.
And what's the shady past? that this is made by a russian dude?

I am pretty sure the western police will find and expose you faster by checking your whatsapp, insta, facebook.
 
I like translate feature that they have. And of course lots of handy bots.

Many sellers start their own Telegram channels, then in it promote their private group for which they charge.

But what is the border between a positive review and a promotional material>?

You are right on some things on telegram over other social media platforms. It is great for the fact that it offers strong features for privacy and security including end to end encryption secret chats. It also allows files sharing of up to 2gb exceeding the limits of most other platform. It could also support large groups of up to 200,000 members and channels with unlimited numbers. Telegram has all these and lot more. Despite all these it still has few users.
 
I registered at Telegram a few days ago. My experience so far:

- only a few honest people (from BHW of course) with interesting discussions, plans and reputation
- bots
- hookers
- illegal content
- stolen content
- technical issues of the platform
- they don't care about privacy (phone number shown by default)
 
I agree that BHW should open a separate forum for Telegram if could. I'm looking forward to learning more about Telegram like how to promote channels, build groups,... I've posted a few research and learning articles on the General social chat forum before, but it's quite out of place and has little information. efficiency is contributed
Recently Telegram also added the Similar channels feature but I don't really understand how it suggests those channels. Would love to discuss this further

Yeah, as long as your friends colleges join there it will make much more sense
 
I think one reason might be the popularity of other messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger in the West. People tend to stick with what they know and what their friends and family use. Also, concerns about privacy and security might lead some to choose different apps
