Suggestions for master thesis

Hi everyone,
I created this thread hoping to receive some feedback from you.

I am a business informatics student and would like to write my master thesis about SEO. Since I don't have much time, I was hoping to receive some answers in this forum. I chose SEO because I work in a watch business and not so long ago we launched a watch shopping website, so I started to search about how to get better positions on Google. I thought this is really interesting area as a lot of potential costumers comes from google, therefore it is important to achieve high rankings. I was doing some research and mainly found guidelines and books how to achieve better rankings which most of them are the same.

I want to dig deeper into it, so in what areas it would be interesting to do a research?
Maybe problems/challenges of SEO? Future trends? Something with digital marketing/ social media?
I need to come up with thesis topic so any feedback will be appreciated.
I would share my findings later on the forum.

In my opinion, that is a very generic topic for a Master Thesis. Maybe you should find something more concrete, as you said "future trends" in SEO or something with more depth.

Hi DK13,

SEO is how to provide an algorithm certain input to get output you like. It's interesting and sometimes even thrilling but don't mess up your degree with this stuff. Chances are high you will (and cannot) find a bounded question to be asked and you will also have problems with finding scientifically sound answers.

Well, we are all doing very well still in 2017 so that means google is doing badly.

How about a look at why Google are failing to make the perfect system, why IMers are always able to game their alogorithms, how much truth there is in the statement that all systems can be reverse engineered and therefor beaten and finally whether there is a chance of success (eventually) for google or if their ideal is actually flawed (for example, would a perfect set of search results actually be bias in it's self because it would technically be put together by Google and therefore unlitimately based on an opinion and selfish motives).

Some form of data mining/big data? I'm sure Business Intelligence can be applied to this.

How about the role of SEO in smart assistants?
