So after a piss full night sleep i woke up and show this

What the fuck happened?
The site is almost 3 years old and i have been steadily in the first page for 2 years.
I have most of my links from BHW.
Maybe i lost links? Any other suggestion?

I had an odd drop a couple of weeks ago on a client's site. It knocked all of the keywords down about 5-10 positions.

I just threw in a decent backlink and built more citations to get the rankings back up, though so far only one of the keywords is back on the first page.

I think something's brewing in Googleland. Sites aren't reacting to how they should or have been over the last few weeks.

There's no way for us to answer that question without seeing more data.

Possible reporting error (rank trackers aren't always accurate)

Possible over optimization

Possible link loss

Possible changes to your website

Possible penalty

Possible your site / hosting was down during the last crawl

Google has been rolling out an update of some sort, probably something the new AI cooked up. If I had to hazard a guess I'd say it is link related though based on the few stories I've heard.

I am in the same boat. I believe there is some sort of new update coming out. Two sites that have been steady over the past 3 years are now down 8-10 spots. Purchased two new link packages from BHW last month and have yet to register or produce ANY results. When this happens it is usually an update of some sort OR we both purchased BHW packages for our site and the network those links were on got hit or the links are removed / dropped. My suggestion is to either give it time and see what happens or build a few high quality links and see if there are any changes.

Just out of curiosity, did the packages you buy send you receipts by Gmail or reports through Google docs or google drive?

Usually When I purchase links they send a report to my personal email via excel file. I have never recieved a report from google docs or gmail. Tho new links I purchased the report was sent to my email via excel format.

Way too many sellers/members here use Gmail and Google Docs. Whenever I see this I automatically write them off. I recommend not even using Yahoo or Live, as Bing may be able to access data for all I know.

I had an issue with a site where the report was sent via G and I suspect the good 'ol skynet artificial intelligence's been reading the mail again. But maybe it was just a coincidence.

Thanks for the replies. It is very odd because I have not changed or added anything to this site. I will give it some time to monitor it and them I will steadily build some quality links.
But I would like to identify the problem so do not have the same issue in the future.

Keep us posted as well. I think it is the nature of what we do as far as SEO goes. There will always be 'new' sites or higher authority sites that decide to write an article and boom they are in the top ten and your niche site drops down some. Or we buy links through BHW or wherever and inevitability get deleted or removed after time. Let me ask all of you this, when was the last time you checked on your links you ordered after the first month or so? I know I dont. I buy links, the seller sends me a report. I spot check a few and then move on. I couldnt tell you a month later if the links are live or delete or anything. It kinda sucks.

My advice again goes back to find an SEO you TRUST and seems honest and work with them exclusively. This way you can keep better track of your links and know they will stay a long time if built and not deleted.

I have the same problem where KW's get knocked down even further to 40+... I have no clue what is happening, I even lowered density to 0.7 , changed some other on site stuff and added some backlinks for the offpage. Nothing is helping for now... I'm actually going to try to over optimize some KW's on one my sites as how crazy as it sounds as I noticed a competitor in another country for the same KW (diff language) has been steady in first place with a KW density of 5 (!!).

Oh btw there was another thread like this made 1-2 weeks ago where a lot of people were noticing serp drops. This can't be a coincidence right?

Update.

It looks like that the rankings recovered to their previous state.
I suspect it would be some downtime on the server when the googlebot was crawling my site.

I'm facing this kind of 1 day drop on my websites too... I didn't had any downtime

I think the problem is obviously here:

I have most of my links from BHW.

And not in Skynet Google Snowden hacks like Barto says. But I am not ruling that out, just seems tad farfetched for me. :)

Hmm... still weird! :P
I had the same kind of drop yesterday, waiting for it to recover now as well.

A client of mine had the same problem, he was adament it was a Google algorithm change, however a quick check on Ahrefs revealed, the guest posts he had paid for on instructables, hongkiat, medium, etc had all been deleted. It appeared they were all written by the same contributor who's account had been suspended due to misuse, so all guest posts, in total 12, were also deleted.
