One of my sites has been slowly but steadily making its way up the ranks. I got my hands on a fairly powerful aged domain. After setting it up and linking to my website, the site went from being ranked on the second page to this:

7oX83bS

Is this a case of the serp dance? Was the domain I picked up penilized (from what I can tell, everything seemed straight when I took a look at it). This drop happened in a span of a day. What do you guys think?

If you have your money site in Google webmaster tools, you can see if your site is penalized.

It could be a dance, I mean it's only 1 link, but again it could be a penalized domain.
Have you checked backlink profile, anchors, archive.org and screenshots?
Is pbn indexed?

you mention in the thread title that the drop in ranking happened after PBN link so i think there is one of two scenarios could happened:
1- the PBN get detected by google and all the sites they link will be affected (I hope not )or
2- they are just dancing in ranking and your PBN will make your site rank higher
you may need to wait some days to know and keep us updated with your site status..

note: I'm not SEO expert.

Best wishes,

Most likely serp dance. Give it more time before you get worried.

Just give it time before panicking. Check the spam score/backlink profile of that PBN link. Does the link show up in Search Console?

Probably a dance, happen to me many times. I would make sure that PBN is indexed before you drop a link, you don't want any links from de-indexed domains. It's fine if it's not indexed and then gets indexed, but if you can't get it indexed and you drop your link it can hurt your rankings.

Doesn't make any sense. So, just buy this links to all your top ranking competitors and they will get penalized following day, then create a new site and profit ? Too good to be true right ? So, yeah I doubt it was the links

Very likely to be a Google dance, give it some days to a couple of weeks to see if there are more fluctuations.

Yup, everything looks fine as from what I can tell. I've seen drops before but never from top 20 to not even being listed.

Search console sais No manual webspam actions found. The weird thing is that under search consoles, I have zero link displaying where as before I had quite a few:

It's a Google dance.
It's normal after adding powerful backlink.
Do not make any change at this time.
Just wait for 1 week for final result!

I notice GWT doing some major update this lately. Seen some new threads about it. Just wait for few days and see if the links are getting indexed again.

And as for your SERP, it might be a google dance considering it happens after link building.

Its serpbook guys, this keeps happening to me on my serpbook as well. Check it manually and you will see that its still where its supposed to be.

I can't see the backlinks on my site too. Even my internal links are not showing from 2 days now. I guess that something happened to webmaster tools.

This is very normal. I've had a keyword in which I was ranking at #22. Then I added a couple pbn links. A day later that keyword no longer ranked. Obviously I was worried but I know my PBN's are if the highest quality so I have it some time.

3 weeks later my ranking for that keyword is at #8.

I presume it as a Google dance. Just wait for it to settle down.

Hope you will achieve desired rankings with this new PBN. Good Luck!

That's a normal thing. Since you added a link from an aged and powerful link, you can expect a dance.

It's just a Google dance. It will happen when you build backlinks. It will take some time to settle down.

Don't remove the link, leave it there and wait.
