I'm looking into reputation management to see if it's worth pursuing for some clients.

I'd like to move beyond the usual Google Alerts and see if there's something more heavy-duty out there. So far, most of what I've seen is all offered by companies via their websites. I really don't want to go that route and would like to keep everything in-house.

I guess that means software. Any ideas?

BTW- Wikipedia describes rep mgmt this as "Online reputation management, or ORM, is the practice of consistent research and analysis of one?s personal or professional, business or industry reputation as represented by the content across all types of online media. It is also sometimes referred to as online reputation monitoring."

I have a strategy that has worked for me in the past. Should work for a lot of companies. Granted you have to use this strategy on the company name. So here it is. If you are trying to make sure that the first page of results is only for your client you will want to make sure you are using their name as the keyword.

Then go to the site namechk.com and submit the companies name to all of the social sites you have time to do. Since these sites usually will have good rankings you most likely will get those sites ranked above any bs blog that is trying to blast them.

Second thing after that is make sure that you have every variation of their domain name. Use the Godaddy Mass Register tool and see if they are available. Make your client pay for all of the domains. Make sure you get domains like w*w.companySucks[dot]com things like that are important so that nobody else will get them.

The next thing to do is go to Google Keyword Tool and enter in any of the exact pages that are blasting your client. Find out what Google deems as what that site would come up for ON THAT PAGE ONLY. Then start a campaign on those keywords.

Then use the Free power of SocialMarker or if you have something like SENuke social bookmark the crap out of those profiles that you set up in the first step. Guaranteeing that you will have the first two pages of results for sure.

Then go to your client and tell them how much of a badass you are and ask for more money.:D

You can do all of this in about 2 or 3 hours. Of course when setting up these profiles use something like Roboform so that the initial filling out process is easy.

Hope that helps, it seems to work fine. Let me know if you need any clearing up of anything.

If reputation management were as easy as using a piece of software their wouldn't be a market for it. Rep Management is far more complex than that.

You can't just spam links or social profiles either as you need to protect the clients brand and good name, not create more problems. There are a number of superb threads right here on BHW that have detailed Rep Management plans.

I kindly suggest you use the search button and I'm sure you'll find the information you're looking for in order to get started with this.

I know I'm commenting on an old post BUT since I just finished development of our ORM software, I felt compelled to respond. Aside from identifying and monitoring ORM stuff, it actually helps to BUILD a positive online rep. I can give a demo to whoever may want one. We sell it to clients for a $795 to $995 monthly fee. We could arrange a revshare possibly.
