So I've been making a new site for days now, all day every day. Just totally numb now going through shit after shit after shit and fixing it all. And I came to fix up the sign up popup right. I moved things around and added the recaptcha and whatnot.

Then I go to sign up to test the recaptcha, and I do it, and nothing happens. I just get taken to another page. I barely even notice that other page, and I do it again, and the same thing happens. But I remember when I first installed the template I'd sign up and be logged in immediately.

So I disable all plugins, undo some changes I did in the past few hours, remove all the custom CSS, zip up the entire site and download it, so I can add the theme fresh again and test it out.

Then I go and do the sign up again, and then I notice that the second page I get to is the page where I need to write the username and password. The first page is just the one where you give your email. I was under the impression you add your email and you receive an email with your password and whatnot.

It's the stupidest thing that's happened to me all year. And now I'm gonna get up and walk away from the lap top and leave the house. What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

The most important thing is that you resolved the issue. That's all you can focus on.

There's this analogy in software development that the best solution to any implementation is no code at all. I like those types of solutions

This is why I don't try to build web sites or programs from scratch anymore.

So I'm struggling fixing up this damn site, and all of a sudden I realize that some popups don't show for the admin. I mean, they show, but like with visibility:hidden they show. So they're on the page, but I just can't see them. And it's happening only for the admin, not for the users.

So I undo some recent changes bla bla yada yada, I remove all the custom CSS I added, nothing. Then I disable all plugins, boom, it works fine. So I enable the plugins one by one and check.

And you know what it was?

Okay, this is maddness. This plugin shares new blog posts to social media. It has no relation to anything within the site about anything, anywhere, at all, zero.

So once again, total insanity. Makes no sense.

I guess the solution is:

1) Try an older version of the plugin
2) Replace the plugin with a different plugin

Both of these are doable, so I'll give it a shot.

Just goes to show, shit don't make sense, and sometimes it's the basic troubleshooting steps that get you ahead.

Glad you found the culprit.

I ran into similar issue with one of my site. That useful Social autoposter plugin was blocking some functionalities (can't remember exactly what it broke) in one of my sites.

The solution was just a simple toggle on/off and decided delete the plugin altogether.

Something like this happened to my site just two days ago using Elementor. Changes won't reflect in front end after spending several hours customizing the header. Fck! It happened to be the Print method option selected as External file that caused the issue...after spending almost 48 hours trying to fix shit. Lol

this solves a lot of issues for me. So much so that around 50% of the plugins I use have updates disabled.
What are you using for popups?
I've found old Elementor to be pretty good with popups.

Yeah I ran for years with All updates (plugins theme wordpress) disabled. But now I'm trying to stay updated as much as I can. Though I'll probably revent back to my old ways and disable all updates once I get my site in a proper working order

Yeah it is, I used to use it.

But SNAP is really good man. Not even for autosharing new blog posts, more so for their Reposter and their Quick Post functionalities. I mostly use those with this plugin. For autosharing new posts on Social media I use Nelio Content. I don't remember why, but there it is

Regarding my issue, I was using SNAP v4.3.30. Now I installed v3.8.8 and the problem on the site isn't happening anymore, though I'm not sure if the plugin works.

I deleted the plugin and installed v4.3.30 again, just to see you know maybe it got corrupted or something. But no, the problem starts happening again.

Unfortunately I'm not able to find to download any version between those two

But on one of my other sites I have v4.3.23, so I zipped it up, downloaded, and uploaded in the new site. The problem continues...

So I looked through some backups I have, and found v4.2.8 in a backup from almost a year ago. Installed it, activated it, the site works fine. YaY

But this doesn't matter if the actual plugin doesn't work

Tried Vk.com, it didn't work

So I did a little surgery. I found the 2 files responsible for the VK posting, and I replaced the ones from v4.2.8 with the ones from v4.3.23. Did a test post, and, it worked. The test post worked, and the quick post worked

Anyway I still need to test Twitter, and to test the reposter.

So anyway I only use the plugin for VK and Twitter, at least at the moment. So if any other network doesn't work I'll do the same surgery and try to fix it. And if I forget what the surgery was.. well.. that's why I have this post here isn't it?

I've noticed that a lot of recent plugin updates are more about adding telemetry and "sign in to use this plugin" than adding new features.

So another problem. For some reason emails are not being sent to users. But it was working yesterday. So I undid some changes, disabled plugins, shoot me now please.

Then I installed this neat little plugin - https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-logging/

It shows you all the emails sent out by wordpress. Great.

So I started enabling plugins few by few and registering accounts in between. I came to the end, and then registration emails didn't arrive (1 gmail and 1 outlook). The last email arrived before I enabled Jetpack and SNAP.

The plugin shows that wordpress sent the emails, but they never actually arrived.

I know, emails hitting the inbox isn't always very predictable, especially emails from my shitty shared Hostgator hosting and my shitty site. But the thing is, the emails are hitting the inbox, but it's almost like something happens on my site to stop them from hitting the inbox anywhere (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, mail.com, mail.ru, zoho, aol, none). I'm trying to figure out if that's the case, and if it is, what is this something...

I enable Jetpack. I register with a mail.ru and a yahoo, emails don't arrive. They're sent according to the plugin, but not arriving (inbox/spam).

I disable Jetpack, I register a bunch of accounts, no registration emails arrive anywhere. I even tried throwaways for receiving:

I figured these throwaways won't have a strong or any spam filter, so anything that's sent to them will actually land. Am I wrong? @TaggingEveryoneAndAnyone @noellarkin

You're trying to send emails from your domain's SMTP, right?
Try using something like SendGrid or AmazonSES.
SendGrid has a 100 mails/day free plan you can test out.
Here's what I do for mail deliverability on WP sites.
1. I Install MailPoet, my go-to for all WP mailing.
2. I enable the "use MailPoet sending method for all transactional emails" setting
3. I connect MailPoet sending method "SendGridAPI" with SendGrid using the API key I get from my SendGrid account (which has to be phone verified btw)
4. I configure my sendgrid account, setting up - verified sender email as well as -authenticated domain (which involves adding some DNS records to a subdomain of your site, I use Cloudflare DNS for this
5. I send a test mail with MailPoet in wp (test mail in Mailpoet settings) and check if it reaches the target inbox.

Haven't used either, if they're interfering with your phpmailer, I wouldn't know...
I do remember one of my mentors telling me a couple of years ago to not use jetpack because it was buggy and interfered with other stuff. Can't remember exactly what. I'm not sure what you're using Jetpack for...if it's for forms then GravityForms or FluentForms do a pretty good job IMO. I install GravityForms in all my sites.
If SNAP is the culprit, try setting up your post syndication with IFTTT instead (using your website's RSS feed as source).

So, I started looking for an email provider where there's no spam filter. Where I can receive any email I send to an address. But I wanted something temporary, preferably without me having to register somewhere. Don't make me register bro come on GTFO.

Then I remembered, my hosting emails, like the emails for my domains, I use them through my hosting provider webmail, and there shouldn't be a spam filter there. Maybe something extra weak, or maybe nothing at all. Actually there is something. I remember almost 3 years ago when I paid for my hosting, and a few days later I realized I wasn't receiving some emails. After some back and forth with support (I was pissed!) it turns out it was some option somewhere in cPanel. Of course I turned that shit off immediately. If someone sends me an email which if I open 1 billion people die, I demand that it hits my inbox. Don't spam filter nothing. I am the filter. Thank you. Even on Gmail I have a filter to send all the email I receive direct to my inbox. Nothing ever lands in the Spam folder. But of course, Gmail and these other assholes have their own spam filters and they just block whatever the fuck they want. Pricks...

So I register a new account on my site with one of my site emails, I receive the email.

I enable Jetpack, do it, it arrives.

I enable SNAP, do it, it arrives.

I enable WP Super Cache Crap and enable it, do it, it arrives.

I delete all the users I registered with my domain emails, because I only have so many...

I put back some stuff in functions.php, do it, it arrives.

I put back some more stuff in functions.php, do it, it arrives.

And according to WP Mail Log plugin, all the emails have been sent. And they all arrived in my domains inboxes.

In the end I disabled the WP Mail Log plugin and registered an account. Who knows, maybe it's thanks to the plugin that the emails were arriving. But it's not, the email arrived anyway.

Perhaps there's something I'm not seeing. But from what I'm seeing, wordpress/my site/my hosting is sending out all the emails correctly, just the gmails/hotmails/yahoos of the world are mostly not accepting them, not even in the spam box. That's what I'm seeing. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't know that...

But ha ha, the jokes on you. I've been on the internet for way too long, and in all those years I've learned that your best bet for a hassle-free life is a website where people can register and login and use the site with no email confirmation or verification whatsoever.

The website I'm dealing with here, it does send an email after registration. But that email is purely informative. There's no link or any bullshit the user needs to click in order to verify their account.

Now you'll say, "but muh password recovery". Listen, don't be an asshole. Write down your passwords. Or remember your passwords. Or use the same password on all sites. Or tattoo your password on your forehead. I don't give a shit. If you forgot what password you used, and the password recovery email doesn't arrive, you only have yourself to blame. But since I'm a nice guy I have "Contact us" forms and emails and links to them splattered all over the site like feces, so you contact us and we give you a new password. One that looks like this #@$$%)#%*#$)%*$#%)$#*%)$#*%)$#*%$#)%*$#)%*

Kidding, I'll give you whatever you want, I don't care. Make it 1234 for all I care, that's your business.

What's a transactional email? They're all transactional. We're here to make money. Take the money away and we're gone. So that means every email is transactional

I don't have subdomains. Site.com is all I use. Well, I have 1 subdomain on one of my domains. I also don't use child themes. I have site.com, and a theme. Simple. So I don't get the DNS record to a subdomain thing...

Yeah I use Cloudflare for all my sites, but I just let Cloudflare set itself up, I don't know anything about adding anything. That would be a whole new shitstorm to navigate and figure out and come out the other end. But @BlogPro knows that shit real good.

See when all that is said and done, I never get away with any of that shit. I'll be banned by SendGrid or AmazonSES before you can blink. And then it was all for nothing

I do Jetpack for contact form, and site accelerator, and I have a few more things enabled, need to check it out. Oh I think also for email subscribers or something. I need to check it out and see all the stuff I use it for. It's not many, but I do use it.

IFTTT, oh, I don't like IFTTT. It looks retarded. I mean, it works, sort of, kind of, mostly. But every time I have to login in there it's like I feel this heavy load on my shoulders. It's totally retarded. I use Nelio Content and Snap and Revive Old Post and Dlvr and Zapier and Socialbu for that stuff. I also use IFTTT for something small, can't remember exactly what. But you can't use IFTTT really, it's retarded

Seriously, your account disconnects, you get an email, you click it, and instead of getting to the page to reauthenticate the profile, you get to some random whatever page, and you're just sitting there like an asshole. You login, you find your applets or whatever they call them, and you can't find basic information about them. And the design, like, boxes and shit. Too flashy. It's stupid, I try to avoid IFTTT as much as possible. But I do admit that it's a nice tool and it generally does work
