if you're an internet marketer on squidoo, you know the value of having hot keywords in your squidoo lens domain.

the only problem is that 9 out of 10 times, these hot keywords are already taken by marketers that are quicker than you.

    here's a simple example,
    webhosting <- taken
    web-hosting <- taken

at this point, most people give up and start thinking of different keywords...only to find that most of the hot keywords have only been taken.

shame on you....you shouldn't give up so easily....

....what kind of a black hatter are you anyway?

    webhosting <- taken
    web-hosting <- taken
    web-hosting- <- taken
    web-hosting-- <- AVAILABLE
    web-hosting--- <- AVAILABLE
    AND SO ON

do the dashes matter? will they hurt your seo ranking?

now, i know what you're thinking 'but tonlilaz, that's really retarded because nobody's gonna remember 15 dashes in your squidoo url'

and i say, if you're using squidoo strictly for seo and marketing purposes...you don't really give a flying f* for type-in traffic. as long as the search engines read word1 -word2....

more stupid squidoo tricks to come..... stay tuned

sounds interesting. let me try it out.

but i have one question... suppose if i am able to create a squid00 lens for instance"squid00.com/web-hosting---"
will that beat the one and climb up like "squid00.com/web-hosting" at SE's ?

Instead of Hypens we can also use underscore know....

The SE may read the words but the number will probably throw off the term unlike the dash which should be discarded. ie: "nba finals 2008"

Thanks for the tip. Yeah I've seen lens URL's set up that way. Here's what I do to find available lens URL's.

After I ID the keywords I want to target:

    1. Fire up Lens Inspector

    HTML:
    http://affilitools.com/lensinspector.php
    2. Copy & paste target keywords into the search field

    3. Leave 'dashes' & 'underscores' checked off

    4. Click thru to each result. A lot of those desireable URL's showing up as 'exist' in the results are up for grabs. I just grabbed 2 while posting this reply :).

bonus tip: Don't sleep the hubpages results -- you can pick up some good keyword rich domains. Again I would click thru to each result because some of the hubs showing up as 'exist' are no longer published.

Hi Tonlilaz Thanks for the most useful post,This is very true and will certainly help me.It is also a question I wanted to ask about on this forum. So conceivably, one could use almost anything besides say your example and still get ranked in the search engines.

I think this is called thinking outside of the box.:D
