Hey everyone!

I'm new to Upwork and I'm having a hard time getting accepted/interviewed for a job. I sent around 20 proposals and only got one job for the moment.
I think it's due to my lack of experience on that website. Do you know how I could get some ratings to make my profile more visible and attractive please ?

Upwork was great in 2010 when it used to be called Odesk. Now'days its very saturated ,and people usually only hire the experienced workers. So, I'd suggest you to try on other websites like Fiverr. If you offer something that consumes lot of time, try to weight it down to something that you can offer at cheaper price. It'll help. Don't just depend on upwork.

There are many other freelancing website.
 
I've already tried to put lower bids on my proposals and it doesn't even work. I even asked for 10$ instead of 60 once. I'll give a try to Fiverr but it seems as satured as Upwork in my niches (translation and graphic design).
 
Well I actually don't have 10 years SEO experience or a 10k$ budget setup to make voice over
 
Maybe your issue isn't the website (Upwork) but your current skill level in your field (graphic design).

Also, since you're a designer, do you have a portfolio made for people to see examples of your work?
 
Used upwork back when I was freelancing - it's a pain to get the system to work for you but once you get it I was picking up regular $5,000 + contracts.

Best method I found to get started was to take on the jobs not many people would touch just to build up your portfolio and ask as many questions as you can so the project does not drag out.

Use the filters. Set to payment verified. Check budget to $100-500. Number of applicants 0-10.

Go and sniff out some projects. Don't apply to 1-2 line jobs. Don't apply to projects where they have posted asking for a specific person!

It's also worth registering as someone looking to hire, place a job advert then when you get 50-80 applicants look at the same kind of offers you get and avoid pitching for a job in the same manner!!
 
there are some guys in some seo fb groups that can help you to be accepted there but I don't remember their names..
 
Yes I do have a portfolio. I think the fact I still don't get any rating on my page doesn't help.

I think the name of the group was called "SEO jobs" or something like that. Join there and ask.

I gave up on upwork, as it had slow response time, and people undercutting.


Seoclerk was a better fit for me.

By the way, is anyone here selling small missions for 5$ on Upwork ? I'll pay 10$ for each.
 
Quick update: I finally found some gigs (small missions) and made my first bucks on that website.
It's not even 100$ but still a beginning and my profile is slowly getting better since I'm getting reviews.

I'll update again if I find some "expensive" missions.

Try Fiverr, peopleherhour and facebook groups. Without waiting, you could approach, market your skills on facebook groups. Start a Facebook page too.
