I have been blogging for a few months but I am struggling to get consistent traffic. What do you guys suggest for a beginner should I focus on SEO or social media promotion first?

You can kinda do both, at the same time. SEO - No need to focus on Off page optimisation, just do on page optimisation when writing content and proper internal linking, after that you can promote those posts in social media. if any of your content does good in social media, you will get backlinks naturally so.

Without steady SEO, social traffic won’t last long, so build search rankings first and use social for extra reach.

Do a mix of both so that you are not dependant on any one only. Even if one method dies ,you will keep getting traffic on the website.
