Stripe account closed + $425,000 fine

the stripe email i received this morning:

Hello,
Your Stripe account for XXXXXXX has been found to be in violation of card network regulations due to illegal transactions. Despite our efforts to provide the card network with evidence to the counter, the decision may still be upheld, and your business may be subject to a fine of up to $425,000.
Why has this happened?
The card networks we work with have requirements that dictate which products and services can and cannot be processed on their networks, and any violation of these requirements can result in substantial fines. Examples of violations include selling copyrighted products without authorization or selling pharmaceuticals without proper verification.

When you set up your Stripe account, you agreed to the Stripe Services Agreement, which states that your business acknowledges that ‘Stripe may deduct, recoup or offset Fees and other amounts you owe under this agreement’.

The card network will confirm the fine amount at a later date, at which point we will debit it from your Stripe account. We have placed your account balance in reserve to cover the future debit. Once the fine amount has been debited, this reserve will be released.

In addition, per card network rules, you and your business have been added to a card network Terminated Merchant File.

i 've been using stripe for the past 3 years and was barly making $1K / mo sometimes way less, with different merchant account, why am i getting fined with $425,000? i've never had this amoutn of transaction in my life let along with stripe.

Anyone received this email before? what is the ideal move right now? will i be sued?
Once Stripe hits you with this kind of letter, you’re basically on MATCH (blacklist). Mainstream processors won’t touch you again. The only real path forward is working with teams who specialize in high-risk/offshore setups either cloaked PayPal/Stripe accounts or direct high-risk gateways that don’t rely on Visa/MC’s strict merchant category codes. That’s how merchants in your exact position keep scaling past this.

That's the biggest problem. To avoid it, always use "friends" instead of your real name. Better is such friends are imaginary.

I think you can try Paddle as an alternative. I used to use it and it was pretty good. Just some things are not as good as stripe in terms of payment interface which is not as eye catching.

only thing is payout taking ages
I think it really depends on each person’s situation and purpose for their work.

Stripe might be good, but from another perspective - when disputes occur - the chances of losing money are higher, and the risk of having your account suspended is unavoidable. It’s similar to PayPal - a double-edged sword: convenient, yes, but once you have around three or more disputed transactions, your account can be permanently disabled.

Paddle, on the other hand, is an alternative solution that practically eliminates the risk of account suspension. It also handles disputes quite well, significantly reducing refund issues, especially for digital products.

We've been using Stripe for the payouts of our models for a while, they were quite ok (pricing was fine, and the delays in terms of incoming funds almost didn't occur), but since 2023 their service dissapointed us very much. Few of our accounts got banned, we've received some requests for additional info provision, and once we provided that they just answered that the accounts cannot be restored. Luckyly there were not so many funds on them, but after that situation i personally suggest everyone to avoid using their service. Especially when it comes to adult/webcam income, cause based on our experience, their view on that industry changed a lot.

If Stripe sends you an email saying the decision is final, and if your Stripe account is UK account, report them to the ombudsman.

You got closed down for selling IPTV. You need to accept that will happen sooner or later. Better buy a new stripe account and keep rotating accounts. Cost of doing business.

Let's say we purchased a pre-existing Stripe account. If we change the account's IBAN number and company name to the IBAN and company name from a previously closed Stripe account, won't the newly purchased account also be closed? How do you handle this?

Best option is still Stripe, especially with some account history + proper cloaking. Since you mentioned rotating do you actually know how to set up a proper Stripe rotation stack? Just swapping accounts with no structure will get them killed the same way.
