I just read this on "Entrepreneur.com"

"The reason you are penalized is likely because you have a lot of unnatural links pointing back to your site,... There are several types of links Google tends to scrutinize more such as: - Links from non-indexed sites." https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/234211

Really??? How can Google penalize your site based on backlinks that they haven't indexed, and therefore don't even know exist!

Surely this writer of this article is talking nonsense right? Or am I missing something?

Google can crawl a site and decide not to keep it in their index.

Dont trust everything you read about SEO.

Oh yeah of course, forgot about that.

But then in that case, is it wise to disavow spammy backlinks which haven't been indexed by Google? For example, there is this site called "The Globe" which is pure spam, but Google doesn't really index. Should we disavow such links?

I think your question was answered, but here's a more important question:

Why are you looking for SEO advice on Entrepreneur.com?

Well, I reckon they're doing a better job at SEO for their site than you are for yours.
Yes, but that SEO who wrote that blog won't be the SEO for the site.

Cut the attitude or just take their advice if you want.

Someone should buy you a beer for that response.

It was pretty epic.

BTW, I would not trust that writer either unless he has case studies to back it up.

And for some reason you think the guy writing that article had anything at all to do with it?

By all means, analyze their site looking for hints at what you can apply to SEO on your own site, but don't delude yourself into thinking the guy who wrote that article has any idea what is going on with the SEO for Enterpreneur.com

Entrepreneur isn't a reliable source for anything related to actual entrepreneurship, it's more of a Facebook cover photo type thing

I'm not going to disagree with that as it has lost any real value other than fluff years ago.

At one time that was a decent publication and at one time I could run a mile under 5 minutes.

Neither are ever going to happen again.

Key takeaway from that article: If you own BestSEOCompanies.com you can pay Scott Langdon to write an article on Enterperneur.com and he'll give you a backlink.

That is of course assuming he is still writing for them, this was 4 years ago afterall.

Don't drink, but an ice cold coke would do thanks! Must be in a glass bottle.

Yep, all great points, thanks a lot.

Relax, just a bit of fun.
