I know this is tough for most of you that have been hit by the updates and its an easy excuse to bitch and moan about how "its googles fault" that your rankings have dropped.

To be good at SEO you have to be ahead of the game. Everyone had ample warning this was coming. Adapt, change and overcome to get back in it. Whining about how Google is evil and all this shit is going to get you nowhere. Threads talking about "taking out google" will get you NO WHERE!

Put your head to the grindstone and get back in the game. The average person has no idea what is going on and will continue to use Google for their searches. As long as people are using google, you need to continue to be flexible with updates and be well out ahead before it happens.

Now get back on the horse and kill it!

I agree completely.

First of all it has been only a day since the latest changes and it would not be the first time lately that our websites came back to their earlier serps or even better when they changed their algorythms again.

And if not, adapt or die.

I was about to make a post about this.

Its annoying that they complain even though they should know the risks of depending on Google.(Especially if your blackhatting)

And another thing the Basics will always work,Make GOOD content, High PR backlinks, and diversify. Even if your rankings dont rise immediately they definitely will if you keep at it

It is very natural for power to change hands. Google is only making authority sites out of some previously overlooked great-content sites

Recent updates seemed to have affected my sites for the good. Traffic is up up up!

Not sure why every time google has an algo update it's a "bad thing" sure panda most likey is the reason my traffic got shot down late last year like most people but my new site has been holding strong and just recently got a boost not more than 3 days ago. Algos are Algos...adapt and change folks.

Yup, you got it! Much shorter than my post lol.

ok so whats the new strategy to be heading towards? Quality and only quality? because I've heard people using white hat also got hit... I was just about to launch a new project and now I'm left hanging... wondering even if I do white hat links if my site will last till the next update :S

I think that all depends on what they think "white hat" means. I bet it wasn't exactly white hat...

I don't mind one giant thread but it gets old when its every few posts on the frontpage.

Here's my take on it - if you're dropping in the rankings someone else must be gaining in the SERPs, so take a look at what they're doing and do that rather than whining.

Matt Cutt is obviously checking those sad threads ...

ha must be thinking - " mission accomplished "

Here's the good news about serp changes - if a lot of people are talking about, it means a good portion of your competition just quit.

You said it, whining and being a 'victim' is not gonna get you anywhere. Google can do anything they want. Adapt or quit. And if people quit, google was actually kinda successful with this update, in a sense.

I am pretty sure that now there is no way to rank with just free links as we all did before. Over-optimization can't be a problem, we can always deoptimize sites.

The thing with articles you get your back-links from is pretty bad. So you should get links from related pages that is readable and grammatically correct. I am not sure are even super spun articles good. A site, i made link to using my own super-spun article lost rankings too.

But even if a article is perfectly spun and ok, probably there still would be problems. I am not sure why, probably because google can recognize spun content in some extent, but also i am not sure can it properly see if the links is relevant to the page. For example if i have site about cars and i use anchor new BMW would it get my site penalized. The real text about bmw would probably do better in THIS V. of Google. But this is BS. I mean most sites use just related article for backlinks but they still lost their rankings.
