Stop trying to rank pages with links. This doesn't work.

I've been doing this for over ten years based on common sense. I can't believe this is news to some people.

Creating a small, thin site that's just trying to 1 page is not really going to work for anything except the most ultra low comp of keywords. Ranking those is a little different and not really the point of this thread. You can rank them with 1 or 2 good links, but "free" links are rarely good.




My network is probably the most expensive ever, and I often advise clients to send even the most expensive of my links to info pages.

You get great results from targeting unexpected pages.

@splishsplash All seo agencies I have tried till now for guest post and niche edit, provide me a list of domains to choose from. Looks as if they have a database of websites for providing GP or NE.
The above approach doesn't defeat the purpose of outreach? because there is no actual outreach being done based on the relevance of content.

If I do it myself then I hit the accounting issues. as I need to maintain so many invoices, track payments and check backlinks.

How do you recommend outreach be done without going myself crazy over the process?

Not entirely true, just because you don't know how to get them for free doesn't mean they are garbage.
OK, now I get them much less than before but I still get guest posts for free as they link to me as an authority in the field (in the guest posts paid by somebody else).

Totally agree about the title but don't forget, @splishsplash is a link (PBN) seller so he has to do it... marketing.

That is NOT at all why I post.

I find it very offensive when people call me a "link seller".

I'm building an AI SaaS that's going to make Jasper look like a PoS, and I get so put off by people accusing me of only sharing because I'm selling links that I'm not even going to bother creating a BST or having any connection to my AI products here.

It really sucks when you spend time and effort to share valuable information with people and you just get accused of being a link seller. I really hate it.

I'm not going to bother sharing a thing for a while. Really fed up. Seriously. I'll keep my SEO knowledge to myself. Trust me, I don't need to make these threads to make money.

Well, it's 2 am and I can't even keep my eyes open .. so, just wanted to say.. I agree with @jstover77 on this one. If I want to rank a page, I simply build links to it till it ranks .. simple and straightforward. I believe there are only 2 type of links, strong and weak. As long as you are building the first type, you are good to go. And I don't believe google algorithm gives a s**** about which page get linked more than another. Like, there isn't any spam alert or measurement for that. At least from my experience.

However, by looking at my websites, I also believe if the page isn't moving up, it's pushing all other pages down. So, I don't build pages if I don't intent to rank it. And if I have a page which is performing badly, I take it out. So, with enough time, the website always ends up like @splishsplash said.. all pages are ranking, have backlinks and pushing each other up. It comes naturally, as I have no idea why you would build a web page if you don't want it to rank! It will end up as a juice sucker. I swear I spend more time deleting pages or editing them than creating new ones.

Lol, there is a saying, if you stopped to stone every dog that barks at you, you would never reach your destination.

It's public forum and you can't just stop at each comment! If you want to look at it statistically check you reputation in the forum and your reaction score to messages ratio. This is a great indicator of your true value in the forum.

So, you will just ignore the +7000 people who thanked you just because few dozens of members!

There are hundreds of sellers in the forum who are spamming the forum with useless crap or never shared a single piece of information. So, basically, his logic is wrong. And even if you are doing it to market your products, it's not bad as you are actually sharing valuable information... It's not like they shared golden nuggets for free! they are just here to get some review copy or s*** on other threads.

I'll say one more thing here.

But you do sell pbn links.
Also, I agree that the title of the thread was somewhat misleading. And I agree here with @jstover77
But overall, you do share interesting insights.
You can't really expect everybody to agree with you but you do share.
I read all the posts in this thread and I liked it...

After going through this thread, I feel a lot more confidence in my approach now (basically the same as OP). I've always approached link-building by thinking "How would Google look at this", and tried to look as natural as possible i.e. the conservative approach.

There are many conflicting opinions in this thread, and I think people who disagree with this approach (and by that I mean people who still prefer to go HARD on commercial pages with links) fall into these categories:

1. They may be into a black-hat niche or in any other competitive niche wanting to bank hard in the short-run with commercial pages (which isn't bad). But basically they are may not be as worried about the long-term impact on their rankings, or whether the gains will stick or not.

2. They prioritise 'impact' over efficiency/ROI. And that makes sense when your website has 1:10 commercial:info ratio. (You don't see a point in sharing your juice to those 10x informative posts).

On the other hand, big authority sites have a lot more money pages and hence they will surely benefit by improving their overall authority (and ultimately ranking them). Plus they also have opt-in forms on non-commercial pages that ultimately end up being their source of revenue. So by spreading links, they are actually doing 5+5 = 10ish whereas the people in the 2 categories mentioned above are fine with 5+5= 5,6, or 7

People always want the overnight option rather than just writing high quality content.

A high-authority site's low-quality articles can rank better than a new website's highest-quality posts. That's why people are crazy about backlinks.
