I was the #1 ranked trader on Zecco in 2009. I started with 2.5k and at one point my portfolio was topping the 80k mark. I ended up making 40k on the year.

Most of my money was made in Q stocks. Q stocks are stocks that were trading on the big boards and then declared bankruptcy. They are then delisted and given a new ticker symbol which includes a Q, thus the Q stock. These stocks then plummet and you are given the opportunity to buy billion dollar corporations for pennies. There is a ton of risk in this but it can also be very lucrative. When the company comes out of bankruptcy the shares are almost always deemed worthless, but if you go in for awhile and get out before the restructuring, there is a ton of money in it.

Some big plays of mine in that 2009 stretch:

CEMJQ (Chemtura) bought at .045 and sold at 1.50
SSCJQ (Smurfit Stone Container Corporation) - bought at .19 sold at 7.00
SSCCQ (another class of Smurfit stock) bought at .03 sold at .70

The real key to trading well is figure out a system and go with it. I trade mostly big board stocks now although I occasionally dabble in a Q stock play but they have largely cooled off.

Stickky Stock Charts is a good book to look at.
    Heres another: http://www.amazon.com/How-Made-Million-Stock-Market/dp/1897597991

The both talk about developing a system and going with it. Trading should be non-emotional.

If you also want to watch some interesting shows about trading check out Wall Street Warriors, you can find it on Hulu.

Some episodes these guys lose a million dollars and they show no emotion because they followed their system. It's hard to be stoic, but if you can, you can make money in the stock market.

I have made a little bit of money playing the stock market.

Other than tradeing Q stocks and channeling stocks. It's a rich man's game.

One thing nice about Q stocks is the upside is huge considering there down so low to begin with.

As far as day trading and channeling stocks here our some nice rules that have helped me trade more successfully.

As Josh mentioned, learn to trade options. Check out ThinkOrSwim and InvestTools. They have free online and live classes.

I have a Bachelor degree in Finance (and Marketing and a MBA in Management) and often time think about investing in the stock market. Wonder why I don't???

I have learned that if I invest my money into my IM ventures, I make much more money that someone investing in stocks with less than high experience. There are not many places where I can invest 10 and get 100 or invest 100 and get 1000 and invest 1,000 and get 10,000.

My advice... invest in yourself and make money online while you can. When that opportunity dies, then invest in stock.

Great post, the only thing I don't agree with is the bolded part. As long as there is some incarnation of the Internet alive and as long as money is used opportunities will never die. One will always have opportunity to earn money in some way.

I only did it a little bit, but I never had a clear plan. I made about $1,000 in two days, but I had about $13,000 I was trading with.

Got greedy and owned over 1 percent of a regional airline. Mesa airlines. Everything was going as planned on that one too until a bankruptcy court judge overturned a ruling that 3 other judges had ruled favorably on. That decision ruined the momentum on the stock and it plummeted about 75 percent that day.

Plus a 22 year old with no formal training probably shouldn't have been managing that big an account, especially during baseball season where I had to put 3-8 hours a day towards baseball.
