Well, for me I never go for EMD before. Even for my Micro Niche sites. So I can make them Authority if I want in long run.
Hi I was just wondering if it's still worth buying EMD's now to rank or if every domain I go for should be a Brand Name now?

EMD slap (for commercial terms) was a reduction in the extra value given to them by Google.
It still seems to have a little value (though not enough for the old" sniper" tactics of an EMD and not much else to work any more)
Advertising in the first 720 vertical pixels of a URL was the single biggest SEPR's nerf of the last 3 months
From terrible if an ad is at the top, to "still not brilliant" if it is under the first 200 and up to 700 pixels from the top.
Of course you HAVE to advertise if you are in IM, but the fact remains - the biggest slap July to October 2012 wasn't EMD - it was overt commercialization.
So clever placement is best. and try to never have any ad block in the first 200 pixels at all.
I mention this because do many MFA sites were EMD's AND had advertising right at the top - sometimes just below the banner
If you owned one of these sites It would be easy to think the EMD slap was the cause of the sites SERP's slip - in most cases it would have been the advertising placement
Scritty
You know when they say EDM were penalized it sound to many as if there were blacklisted but that is not true.
EDM simply just rank higher than non EDM because of the keywords.
Let's assume that before the "devalue" of EDM which i prefer to call that way rather than penalty were ranked this way, just an assumption thou.
EDM 80%
Non EDM 55%
After the devalue of EDM:
EDM 55%
Non EDM 55%
No preferential treatment anymore, all domain now rank equally, it is now based on the type of technique you use.
