In 2010 link building was very easy, submit few links into:

1) Directories
2) Articles
3) Press Release
4) Commenting in various site
5) Reciprocal Link building

I wonder still these techniques are working in 2021? I haven't in SEO field since few years.

I still do Articles, Commenting on various site links. So far no problem in my case!

much harder than 2010. site optimization matters more than it in 2010, hence backlinks having less impact than what they used to have.

quality matters much more than quantity as always

easy to get links do not work anymore; i.e. non-approved comments, directories, forum links, etc.

Yes, all of them work. But we build them to competitor sites these days.

Instead of 1000 web directories try to get 50 business and / or local directories links. I'm training my VA's to look not for 1000 places where they comment and get no results but instead to look for 50+ where their multiple comments would get engagement. If there is a blog that we left comment on in the past and we got some traffic from them we would try to comment on their other posts. We try to identify some places where we can consistently find posts on which our comment would fit in and repeat it on same site. My strategy is to be a sort of "frequent poster" while not sounding spammy at all and providing very engaging comments that hopefully make others seeing the comment wonder who is this profile and click on our link.

in 2010 it worked faster/easier, but that doesn't mean it wouldnt work today anymore if done right.
links are still one of the biggest ranking factors.

I am doing blog commenting for one month now, I wanted to ask whether you put your homepage or your inner pages link?

Mix of many links to diversify. There are no set rules you can create your own unique style. Sometimes you can pass homepage link in the name / url of commenter and also post another link within comment itself. I don't go an analyze blogs based on standard SEO metrics and instead to find niche blogs where my comments can add to conversation without looking spammy and as side effect hopefully leech off some traffic. I'm trying to use these comments beyond normal SEO backlinks and make visitors of other blogs come to mine.

Yes its really working

Everything works, these so called experts here sell their services so of course they will say shit, look at what they have to gain before you read their answers...the majority of blogs have shit crap content that's the real problem...

What works for others, doesn't always works for you. So go ahead and try it out yourself. Afterall link building is all about trials and errors.
