You have no idea how easy it is to pull employers and employees out of Freelancer and work with them in a person to person environment. I've done this many times and success rate is 95%. Just build trust in communication and you can both leave Freelancer for doing the job outside of it. No Fees, No Waiting payments and similar bullshit.

For the sake of trust, pay half upfront and half after. Or if the deal involves bigger money, split the cash into more iterations and send peace by peace. This will assure ongoing motivation and projects will get completed.

check out this project! were i lost 150 euro's fee and were freelancer win 450 euro with the scammer!

i can't post link so please search on web amonamarth73 data entry freelancer
you will find the project very fast

i know i was stupid for accepting!
in this project the scammer have awarded 3 people...
that's means freelancer won 150 euro for each people 150 x 3 = 450 euro!
and the support haven't help me! why? they want my money?
i really love freelancer but why i need to lost my time on the website?
we are not protected from support, it's a risk.

I have a simple question for http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/members/630144-mattbarrie.html

What happens to all this money you don't return to users after failing so called "security checks" ?

I think you can re-apply to do the security checks?? Think about someone who steals a credit card or a PayPal account and uses it to load money, then withdraw it. They had to be 100% sure about the worker is legit

Their security check is a joke. You are to send hi res scan of your govt issued ID and own prison-style photo (holding a card with a code in one hand and your ID in other). In my case they PUBLISHED my name and surname on Wikipedia because they didn't like me criticizing them. Could you imagine any professional company doing something like this on purpose? Even better: they have been repeating it.

More? They used my user history to BLACKMAIL me. Gave me a choice: either I remove articles criticizing them or they will "commence actions agains me" and "contact authorities in my hometown".
No, I am not kidding. What king organization would suggest a customer they have any kind of evidence against him and agree to be silent about it provided that he cooperates?

Wow, do you have a link to the history of that Wikipedia page?

Anyway there is a big problem with trust management in particular in this kind of cases. I remember a case in the early days of rent-a-coder where some people started to do fake project and pay with stolen cards, then withdrawing the money, of course rent-a-coder had to pay the real owners their money back. So if they ask for security checks, is because something, of course if your history is real, that's a really bad attitude.

Unfortunately, I am not allowed to post links and the moderation system sometimes blocks my posts. So will make it short:
1. history of editions for article about the company, August 13th 2012
2. "talk" section for this same company, January the 19th 2013

Their verification procedure would be NOTHING for any professional thieves/money laundering pros. Haven't seen it looking this way in banks, skrill or paypal... so you get the idea something is odd there. The official instruction for verification is in this file circulating around the web: 2ufam4i dhot jpg

What I mean is that this company is absolutely unprofessional and abusive, but pretending to be as legit as financial companies (which it is not). Apart from that: why aren't they describing their procedures? Why aren't users informed that their personal and sensitive data will be accessed from... Manila, Philippines (one of their branches)? My name, surname, ID scan, photo, email, home address, phone number, paypal and many many more data (this company extorts them at the threat you won't be permitted to make a withdrawal) are just circulating around the world without my knowledge or professional control. This is just dangerous having in mind people believe all is as safe as in the bank or, say, airline.

Why is this company full of such nasty surprizes?

mmm... I was not able to find your information, but it seems to me that is not just freelancer but Wikipedia staff itself trying to keep the document clean because you are using wiki as a complain board.

Keep in mind that the popular something is, the most people complain. People don't say they are fine out loud, they just share bad experiences. I was pissed as hell for losing couple of dollars and I understand it, but I hope the little issues get fixed and we all can work peacefully in Freelancer. The site is so big that you can look for the exact things you love to do, so at the end maybe you are not doing them just for the money, but for some learning and challenge.

Two problems associated with it:
1. Made maybe 10 edits about this company in my whole life. There are lots of people complaining on Wiki and company got paranoid thinking this is me. Haven't been active on Wiki for months. Checked those IPs - they are from Hungary, Canada, Sweden. They stated it was me... using proxy. Isn't it paranoia?

2. There you go. I hate this inconvenience...

Could you imagine a bank or hotel doing something like this?

@Matt

ive made thousand on freelancer and paid a fair amount of fees and this updates I can bid on project that I have provided for in the past. I have submitted two support tickets. The first one said it was fixed... It was not!Second has yet to reply. Not to mention the fees etc and i cant even bid on projects im qualified for. Shit most of the top providers in that niche reorder from me the orders they get on freelancer.

I WANT TO BID

I assume he'll wise up soon and stop digging his own grave. This post will definitely be ranking on these keywords soon.

I have no personal experience with FL, but from what I've read thus far freelancer seems down right fraudulent. They're probably spending all that misplaced money to spam google under different country ltds.

I swear you should fit right in on this forum with the amount of blackhat your site gets away with. While you're here you might as well share how freelancer gets away with all that spam. Wait lemme guess, by taking it's users money and keeping ad spend at a healthy level?

They don't took anyone's money. The issue is the human factor + some small inconveniences the site produces. Since the fee is charged first, you have to carefully bid and carefully work when starting.

I liked how vWorker was incredible outdated in terms of confirmations but that forced you to do things better. For example fees were clearly specified in every action, like you are bidding for X, the fee will be Y, you will get Z. Freelancer is modern, like Facebook, a clean interface sometimes is not something better. So add that to the rush of the human factor, you screw something and magically you get some fees (you have to check the finance status to see what was the fee).

First day in freelancer a friend had other account with money but no way to withdraw it, he moved the money to my account and we both were happy as hell: "oh! wonderful, we are able to move money directly from accounts"... then fee appeared in my account and I lost a little amount. In this example, I will love if in the sending side freelancer displayed "the receiver will be charged with $X fee" but nothing show up.

Little small details * Massively popular site * Human factor = Illusion of massive complains

So, some of the factors should go to zero :D and I am hopping are the little small details, it's good for everyone.

I had a very bad experience with freelancer. I created a project and hired a guy. Then I had to pay milestones so I add a balance of about 100 US dollar to my freelancer account. But by mistake I added double the balance I actually needed to pay (clicked on pay button twice and they charged me twice without confirmation!). So I got about 200 US dollar on my account. I paid the contractor fully with half of it and the rest had no use for that time. So I requested the support team to refund the money. They denied and asked me to make a withdraw request in stead (which takes me some fees which I don't really deserve to pay cause I didn't earn that money from that site).

The magic happened after that. I found my ID is temporarily suspended and my balance is freezed!! I can't request to withdraw my money anymore!! I contacted the support team again, and they responded after a good one week and asked me to send things to verify my ID. I sent all requested files. I answered all their questions. Then I got no response for days nor got my money back. I contacted them again. They requested more verification. Sent me code and asked me took photos with that code and my ID. I did everything they asked me. Evereytime after reply of their first response they never contacted back until I mailed them again. I submitted everything multiple times, through email and their upload system. They never solved my problem. Never said I will not get my money back (so that I could at least stop wasting my time behind them).

I tried to get back my money 2-3 months continuously submitting all type if proofs including my social security card scanned and also pic having it held in my hand with their code. Why on earth even I have to prove my ID for my own money when they could just refund the money to the same account it came from. The support team is the worst I seen ever. They just wasted my time. Even I still have a few mails those were never responded. 6-7 months gone.

By the way, my id is "imgeeek". Will Mr. CEO do something about it? And what will he do if I ask him to pay for my time that I wasted behind them for no result?

Hi there I am happy to look into this for you if you provide me your username.

yes even i had experienced and lost my 150 usd into vein.
please stay away from freelancer and even i contacted support but they refused me
the money never comes

BE AWARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DJP it is happening today (Monday). Thanks for the ID. I couldn't reply to your PM as I don't have 15 posts yet on BHW.

Hi Pigliacampi

Thank you for reporting that user. Their account has been closed and all project fees refunded, including yours.

Regards
Matt

They get refunded back to their payment source. Otherwise they are charged back which involves us being fined.
