I am extremely disappointed with freelancer.com. It's been almost a year that I haven't used them and when I used the website 3 days ago, it is taking money from my paypal account daily of different amounts and I don't know what those payment are for.... I hate when someone can get my money even if I am not logging-in to my paypal manually.. It's scary...... I don't know but I don't remember subscribing into something related to them and when I checked, they implemented a monthly membership fee of $4.95 or something.

I searched the internet and found tons of complains from their victims...

I read somewhere that they really scam people by using some bidders. For example, you post a project, their representative will place a bid and when he won, he ask you to create a payment milestone and deposit money. The winning bidder then abandon you. When you contact customer support, they will freeze your fund until the bidder respond - and that won't happen anymore... So they have your funds and you have no chance of getting it back...

Just stay away from Freelancer.com - a company that outside US is scary as hell because they can do whatever they want to do... stealing people's money...

Yeah !

I Dont Think Its a Good Platform For New Sellers Yu Will Be Fu*kd xP , If yu Bid Something & If Yu Got Accepted Then If The Buyer Scam Yu No Refund For The Fee That They Had Taken :(( Lost About 120$ In This Same Thing :((

I had an Account with 300$ Freezed and after 38 days Freelancer told me my account is temporarily banned due to Security Reasons But they never unbanned me thus stealing my 300$

Not even for new, they also sucks from old users. I used that site too much but recently they start cheating peoples and they reverse the money, even you follow all the rules b just saying "that buyer collect the money from illegal way". Ask those f*****s that how a bidder know that. They just reverse the money and ban the buyer and eat the money. And if you complain too hard they will ban you as well. So stay away and +1 for OP.

Just wanted to tell a story, we from Indexbear got contacted by their sales guy, btw Freelancer.com is based in Australia.

They offered banner ads, at first it looked fine, we made a deal with discount, instead of paying $500 per 2 weeks, we paid 250, OK, when advertising date came, our ad was mixed with other company ad, WTF?! They promised to give us whole PAGE. OK.

We contacted them and asked why it happening, they just said its kinda mistake, etc. promised to give more days. So then was 1st week when we were only who advertised on page. 7 days. Then they gave us 4 days as bonus due their mistake, But here is the thing, we never got these days, just scammed, so in result their advertising gave us ZERO clients and almost zero visits, they promised send statistics, but we never got these statistics. Our analytics showed small amount of visits from freelancer.com, so wasted 250 $. Not big deal, but when such company promise you everything, and then just REMOVE from skype when you start writing them , why we do not get what we paid for.

And the most funny thing is that sales guy is so stupid, i don't have words about that, it's just so lame. But when they wanted get our money , they sent 3 BIG emails just to sell this "shit" - their ads! Ohh and they shows false numbers , they show only SITE visits, but not exact page where you advertise.

Last time I checked they were from Sweden and now they are from Australia...
Now we have known scammers from Australia...

I have lost over $100 on that crappy website. Freelancer.com is the worst website I have ever come across. It's to be strictly avoided.

Since I have pending transaction, I'll let it done and leave the site. The money I put on milestone is short of $6 and when I tried to use my papal again, it is not allowing me unless I give them full authority to deduct my account in the future.

This is really weird as they are not allowing one time payment. This validates that they are a big time scammers...

i have lost dollars just to post a project which i never posted, i posted project only for $5 bucks then they have charged my card for $***+ they says they do automatic billing...stupid people, i never subscribe for thier auto billing , but as per representative if you dont have funds and you are posting or milstone anything they will charge you without knowing you or asking for permission they directly credit your account, if you ever used credit or paypal on thier site, they store your information without your permission..and when you complain for that then they show you that you have agreed in past...

the money which is deducting is of Membership because they have autoupgraded you to paid membership same happen with me i was a member of Scriptlance which is now of freelancer and they have gift me a membership plan of 4.95$ basic so it's auto upgradable if you have balance in your freelancer account then it will deduct form their

my exp. with freelancer is ok not so good not so bad not good because of their fees

I got the same problem two weeks ago. They charged me $20 for nothing!!

very sneaky tactic, charge the user base (relatively) small amounts, so they won't do shit individually other than complain, because it doesn't worth it

right fuckin time for neg ORM, maybe they will start caring after that

thanks for the heads-up

damn after reading this thread... i just went a cancelled their recurring / per-approved payment
i was with rent a coder before they acquired it.
i hope i am not speaking to early... but so far nothing suspicious in my account.

also the funny part is that the userbase is 95% of scammers probably. this website has always looked fishy for me so I've not even tried to buy anything.
just search for some custom bot project for youtube, facebook, instagram, etc. guys from nigeria, bangladesh, sri lanka will make you any custom bot for 50$ while they responds for the project it looks like they have no friggin idea what are they talking about (no offence)

I use freelancer for some stuff and on the whole I have to say for me it works pretty well. But I have a tight focus there. Plus I keep an eye on their shenanigans, and so far I have money coming from them, not going to them.

Without the details, it difficult to know whether you guys got screwed by Freelancer because they were underhand or because you didn't pay attention. My experience is that they do all kinds of stupid shit, but they do let you know what's coming and you have time to do something about it.

The subscriptions are something you need to use to your advantage. If you are not making enough money to cover the basic subscriptions then you need to think carefully about what you are doing there. All these sites offer free subscriptions, but with limited features.

Past a certain point, the subscriptions start paying for themselves because of the reduced commissions. Do the math. Some guys plan ahead and change their subscriptions based on the work that is in the pipeline. For a large project, it's worth bumping up the subscription to $50 for a couple of months if the reduced commission saves you more than that.

I have plenty of gripes about Freelancer. The site sucks major for many reasons, and they are pretty much useless in running a web site. How companies with millions in turnover do you know that do their testing on their live site? Losers.

But they dominate. Compare the number of jobs coming in daily on the various sites and there are as far as I know only two players - freelancer and elance. If anyone knows of any other serious sites out there, I'd love to hear about them.

oDesk, guru, staff.com, etc are a waste of time. Rentacoder used to be good but couldn't compete with freelancer. They lost focus and thought they should become another oDesk which just accelerated their demise. End result - freelancer bought them out. Scriptlance never really did much before Freelancer bought them.

Their escrow system works. This is what you are buying from Freelancer or Elance. When you're starting out with new clients, you're crazy to trust them, and they are crazy to trust you. With some guys, the moment you start trusting them you get screwed.

I've seen Freelancer recruiting via their own site. Seems that they don't have much skill in selecting the right talent. Sometimes eating your own dog food is not a good thing : )
