Starting an Authority Blog

You are doing good. Wordpress is recommended because of the way it can be customized, but its not necessary for good rankings.

Yea, but we all get too married to WP. It's not necessary for all things and nibbleblog sounds interesting.
 
The only thing I would add is that you should register some social media accounts for your blog, share your article and try to attract some readers.
 
Think of a plan to promote your blog. Either link building - although this means you would stray away from the completely white hat link building, as there is no whitehat link building- or try to promote your blog through other traffic sources.

Just posting articles on a website without any promotion won't get you traffic any time soon, or it won't get you the traffic you deserve.
Too much content published on the web as it is, especially in your niche, you need to do something to stand out.
 
+1 to WP, highly recommended.

As Nick just stated, you gotta rank your site probably through link building which means you gotta get your hand dirty, at least scraping wise.
 
It seems that I'm ranking very well for most of the long tail keywords I'm targeting which is a good thing.
 
I've been hearing whispers of WP being a red flag for G's new sandbox - though if Matt C. endorses it, then perhaps those murmers are off-base, and possibly more relevant to their rampant use in PBNs than for quality blogs.

I use Joomla - laugh all you want but I find it easier to use and since J3.0 they've made it a lot more SEO optmizeable (not sure if that's a real word). And yes, it's as bloated as WP, but has a nicer development framework for larger jobs). And yes, I use WordPress as well.

As for your initial question - I suggest promoting a new blog through social media channels - easy enough to go into Twitter and look up keywords related to your blogs: follow users who have tweeted in those keywords and read their blogs: tweet at them etc.

Another good way to get followers is on LinkedIn: join some relevant groups, and introduce one of your blog posts with an intro and a link to your blog.

Google + (not surprisingly, Google seems to love anything shared on G+) - grow your circles and share your links through G+...

Share your blog posts on Facebook...

and so on.

The development of the blog is nearly done, just a few more features I need to add. I have 8 articles up, most are starting to rank very well!
 
Don't worry about it, since you obviously know what you're doing with building up your site with the necessary onpage SEO, you'll be fine. The only reason why most people always suggest WP because it's a great platform, easy to create, easy to handle, everything is just basic.

Don't sweat it, your site will be fine. But it might take a while for you to get some serious traffic from your site if those are the only things you're going to be doing.

im gonna follow this thread since im quite interested with authority blog....maybe after some time i will make my own thread :)

Wordpress is just a Content Management System, other than that there's nothing special about it. I'm using nibbleblog, a faster and lighter CMS. My website loads at 200MS, while WP sites... I won't even go there.
 
I always want to create an authority site but could not make one as it's required more effort. I'll follow your journey closely to see how will go.

I see many people praise for WP. I just start using it and seem easier than other CMS I had use. I am like the follower of big company, and after seeing Microsoft uses WordPress for their blog, I'm started using it, too. It's all!

The main problem is that without being able to customize every script you run, the plugins bloat your page increasing loading and rendering time. Making for a lousy user experience.
