The main problem is that without being able to customize every script you run, the plugins bloat your page increasing loading and rendering time. Making for a lousy user experience.
You can install 20 plugins and still have few requests or install 1 plugin and and have the website full with http requests.
The plugin issue is irrelevant here. You can't throw and blame WP because you as an user you can't control plugins and scripts.
And 70 million WordPress websites are backing me up!
