What would be different about your forum than the million others that are out there?

To be honest.. if you're asking yourself all these questions then maybe you're not ready to start a forum yet.

I know this is an opinion, but managing a forum is a lot harder than it looks on paper. Plus, you've just signed up to this forum to ask your question about setting up another forum.. I don't think you're going to get that many helpful answers anywhere.

Where do you start? Start by actually participating on a forum such as this one and getting to know how things work. Do you know what platform you're going to use? Do you have a name yet? What are your forum thread sections? Where are you hosting it? How much experience do you have with "making money online"? How are you going to secure your forum from possible attacks?

You need to get together an actual plan first - before asking questions. Every forum will have its own "best" way for promotion. This is going to vary for every forum and the type of content your forum has. No one is just going to randomly dedicate hours of their time every day for a forum that is brand new and has no long-term plan.

You wanted advice for starting a forum - my advice is scrap the idea just now and actually improve your own knowledge first.

Go for bbpress plugin in Wordpress, but heed what SEOWithV said.

You should be a moderator/admin at first. Grow your users and when it gets harder to manage, ask those user that you're picking a mod and they should apply. That's how it goes. Just like a business, you manage the business when it starts small, hire people to help you and boom.

Good luck!

You got to ask yourself.

what can you offer that others are not offering.

forums are made daily proberly hourly with the same idea
forums are hard to get good members and even harder
to get good mods free

can be done good luck.

I think the best advice you've got here is to stick around here and learn the process. Actively participate and learn how we handle business

Monkey see monkey do

Creating a forum is the easy part but managing it is the hard part. Only the reputable forums have survived now. Most others were just spammed to death and abandoned. Forums were popular before the growth of social media and Web 2.0s. Nowadays, people can interact directly using FB, Twitter, Web 2.0s etc. So, hardly any of them register on forums or remain active nowadays. And there are tons of forums out there and unless you are significantly better and provide value than the others and manage it well, it is very difficult to survive. Anyways the CTR of forums is not that great and so, it is not much profitable either.

The thing is you are wasting your time OP, if you spent from this moment now and until the day you die you will never create a forum even half as good as this one.

So instead of even trying, just learn everything you can from this place and move on to the next idea.

Coming to a forum talking about making online to ask what to do in order to create a forum about the same topic. wowzers

You think you can create a better one than blackhatworld?

i'd focus on a niche or lend some type of exclusivity premise and build it out from first putting together some good skype groups

No point in starting a stand alone forum, instead go for adding a forum to a blog or website you are running. If you are running a make money online website then a forum for that niche along with a blog would add authority and make it a destination for people to go. Just a forum on it's own is just not worth the time and effort, far too many big players out there.

I have helped many websites establish forums. My humble advise is don't waste your time. But if you want to do so, do this first. Start with the blog. Find a way to make people comment on it. If they aren't commenting, then don't bother with the forum coz they won't join either.

You need http://www.contenvania.com services where you can pay people to chat in your forum. Without services like that, your forum will be "dead" and nobody will ever even look at what you do, no matter how hard you try. Seriously look at what ContenVania does.

What is your budget? How would you compete with a handful of authority forums that have existed for over a decade?

Great that you have decided to have a forum, but this niche is so over saturated that you will really have to work super hard to make it different from others out there.

Forum? Such an hard way to earn some money, to be honest. And your target niche is so saturated. Maybe better try to build a small comunity with "money making" blog.

You got valuable answers so think twice before you start working on a forum...
