Starting a forum

I was thinking of starting a forum myself. Can anyone recommend good software for a forum? Some sort of template for a forum?

MyBB was one of the best back in 2017-2018 and is free of course. As far as I'm aware, they barely do updates.
So, what I'd prefer for now is XenForo or IPB. Both of them are a paid forum software.

If you're looking to create a forum you need to be married for it to actually get some traction. if you have no problem sitting in front of the computer all day long and constantly refreshing a site every half hour to make sure no one's screwing around (and they will) you'll be fine. best of luck. let me know when you have some quality content and regular users who aren't one of your 50 accounts talking to yourself and i'll join
