Splogging in 2018

I haven't posted here in a long time but I couldn't resist this one.

Normally I wouldn't give this much information away about what I'm doing, but now that I think of it, it's not that easy to replicate what I have designed with my JV partner :)

Splogging is sadly dying a slow and horrible death at the moment. The agressive "just throw 10 million pages at the serps and watch 10% stick" method seems to be at a dead end. The general technique of mass generated 'content' will never truly die out though.

SEOmadhatter, it seems you are on the right path and have a ton of knowledge. It's very rare to see sploggers here on bhw, at least ones that have fully automated systems. In my opinion splogging has been the best kept secret since the death of linkspam in 2013/2014. It's since back then that I have been ranking and earning with automated content.

First with Argos content, redbutton and WP plugins, later I moved on to the more serious tools ;)

The good thing about splogging is unlimited traffic potential. The bad thing is that there are many pieces of the puzzle you need to solve to be able to fully scale up to a level where you are raking in the cash.

Just a brief overview of the many different chokepoints in a 10k domain splogging operation :

- bad content/scraping content
- bad keywords
- repetitive keywords / continuously finding, scraping and creating new long tail keywords
- bad templates / building and maintaining a system to scrape existing sites and parse the html to create templates for generating
- not spinning templates
- bad interlinking structure
- finding expired domains
- dealing with legal stuff from accidental brand expired domains
- dealing with legal stuff from accidental branded keywords and/or brands in your content files
- finding a way to get your sites indexed if not using expired domains
- building/maintaining/updating api's for all the registars to constantly be able to bulk-register hundreds of domains at once, using different whois or domain anonymity for each one. Api must also be able to bulk assign nameservers/ip's
-building email-server system for bulk-verifying ican domains
-build and maintain own database system that links everything together and keeps track of domains
-constant chore of checking for deindexes
-Finding ip's to put all your domains and servers to run and store everything on (current server costs are 3k/month alone).

You need to handle all this + 50 more things for truly blackhat automated splog system.

Our system has never been perfect, and it seems that for the last years we have been constantly losing an uphill battle. Splogging is only getting harder, at least in the hyper-agressive way we are doing it.

When it works, it's like a blackhat Lamborghini though, nothing even comes close =]

Just one small recent project ;)

Splogging is extremely hard and you won't find too many competitors (at least serious ones) coming in due to reading your posts. I was doing it a while back and was making a good amount (low $X,XXX) per month. I found more issues with having to deal with copyright than anything else. It was generally because the custom scraper grabbed something quite innocently. All the content was reworked in a way which made it unique and readable (don't want to give away how), but I was dealing with 10-20 take down requests a day and some threatened legal action. Generally it was around pictures but blogs without pictures had high bounce rates which triggered spam filters. The 10-20 take down notices were across hundreds of blogs and millions of posts. I remember I was over 6 million articles when I gave it up and took down the network.

I ended up giving up splogging as it was not worth the hassle as I had other projects making a much larger sum for less work.

I would be interested to hear how you are dealing with those copyright issues ?

The only tip I can give is NOT to start/try splogging if you want to get XXX/month blog ;)

Unless you have lots of money and 2 years time to experiment in an almost-dead BH technique

Ok, I totally got your mean here, though I still want to ask some related questions, if you can clear for us:

1, do you use expired domains on sblog, or both, from the test you prefer fresh or expired? If expired, how many RD you at least aim at?

2, do you do SEO for such blogs? And how? Normal tiered link building or some strange ways?

3, for example, a 2K articles sblog, do you post all articles at once, or drip feed post, lets say, 20 a day?

4, do you earn by adxense or CPA?

5, do you use wordpress CMS on sblog or some light CMS?

6, do you do English sites, or other languages included?

I can only think about these in my head, thanks for the tips above!

1, do you use expired domains on sblog, or both, from the test you prefer fresh or expired? If expired, how many RD you at least aim at?

I've tested everything - expired domains are superior in every way. All I can say is that domain metrics as most people use them is completely worthless. There is 0 (NADA) correlation between domain metrics (seomoz/ahrefs/majestic) and how a domain actually performs as a splog.

2, do you do SEO for such blogs? And how? Normal tiered link building or some strange ways?

I've never done SEO for them, except interlinking them together.

3, for example, a 2K articles sblog, do you post all articles at once, or drip feed post, lets say, 20 a day?
Another SEO myth, google doesn't care about dripfeeding. I've never done dripfeeding (except with tests) and I generate 5,10,20,30k pages at a time with no problems.

4, do you earn by adxense or CPA?
CPA although if you do it right you can make lots from adsense too (i know guys doing 20/k month with adsense and splogging - and before you ask, yes they just cloak directly to an adsense lander and no, google doesnt care or ban you as long as you're not manipulating the system)

5, do you use wordpress CMS on sblog or some light CMS?
There is no way you're gonna be able to scale wordpress unless you have a supercomputer nasa server. All my websites are static HTML created by my own custom ownage.

6, do you do English sites, or other languages included?
All languages almost except english.

@ghengis_khan

You speak of serious tools you could share what those tools are so that we can research the subject.

I know Argo Content, PandoraBox, BHC 2.5.

I hope you can help me in this search.

Ok ill make a .zip for you with all my tools and methods and upload it tonight here on blackhatworld so the method is ruined and dies within 1 month instead of 3 :D :D

I never said I didn't use tools, it's all about how you automate them and the system that you build around it.

Argo for instance is pretty outdated compared to pandorabox imo. Yet if you found some way to fully automate it, connect it with domain/ip/server api and keyword generation, then all of a sudden the limitations of the software don't really matter anymore.

@ghengis_khan

No friend, I do not want you to publicly share your Tools that's your job, but I want a mentor a guide only.

Thanks in any way, I specialize in Deep Research (Keyword Intent Long-tail) and just look to create a PBNs for my product.

I work in agency and I am fed up with the clients. So I'm going to build something for me.

I wanted to send you PM but even the system does not allow it. Successes

Mate, thank you very much for your kindness to willing share valuable information to us, to this forum. To some extend, these should be a bit "secret knowledge" as this is your income source, and BHW full of competitioners we all know.

I still have some tiny questions regard this thing, of course I wont ask any core related which may harm you :)

1, Still expired domain. I know metrics is nothing, but like you said, expired domain is superior in every aspect, so I guess, the only "metric" you care is the total referring domains of it right? Or you just aim for the domain age, even no backlinks at all, but with 10 years age ?

2, I want to know that, if you choose an expired domain with a ton backlinks in history. Do you use a 404-homepage redirect plugin to prevent the juice waste?

3, About drip feed. So I wanna make sure, you generate All PAGES at once and wait for the natural indexation and traffics, ymmmm, I read sth like this but still, its amazing too brave like this lol, maybe its just wont get penalized, people are too paranoid lol.

4, Sorry about this sentence "they just cloak directly to an adsense lander", I have no idea what is this lol. In a normal way, I generate 1000 pages of website A, and I put adsense code on it, thats all, why "cloak" thing needed here, sorry I have no tech background at all.

Hope above questions wont harm your own method, but I think people like you, always succeed with their own reasons. For this sblog thing, we can tell, its way beyond a normal Joe. Customize softwares, money to test(burn), a ton of related thing, hard work blah blah, well even you tell the whole method to us, I think very few people can replicate this procedure.

I hope I can find my own way to build some small sblog lol. But I am afraid English field is much more cruel lol.

Thanks for your sharing always :)

Loving the splogging discussion. Don't see a lot of it.

I can definitely see the advantages of using expired domains in my tests so far but I've always a problem with that. I've written scripts in the past to help me catch domains in the drop and scrape expired ones when I was building PBNs but it always seemed way too easy for Google to pick up on and as the drop gets more competitive expired domains become a finite resource. There's no chance decent domains made it through the drop in the last couple of years.

Not saying they don't work - it just irks me.

I can also see why you'd avoid English. The Google algos are a lot easier outside of the .com/co.uk not sure about other English speaking ones like .ca/.au. Most of my stuff has been in English so far though I've been poking at splogs in some EU languages (which would probably be easier if I understood them) and branching out a bit it somewhere in the middle of my to-do list.

Updates:

I finished the last chunk of the rebuild I wanted to get done. Kind of ugly in parts but it's been stable so far. I've stuck it live on a limited number of my sites to see how it does. Finished up a chunk of work which really needed to be done for one of the parasite setups. It was hanging over my head and then took some more manual faffing around but it's finally off my plate.

Immediately after finishing this I fell sick again for a couple of days (have I mentioned I'm done with this bloody winter?) but I'm officially down to 20 hours a week now so I've been able to sleep it off and my motivation came soaring back today. Had more done by 10AM than I'd normally get done in a day.

While I leave the server to churn away with the new content build I'm going to take a break from to project for at least a few days - maybe a week. As much as I'm enjoying it I have a few other projects which earn a lot faster than waiting for a splog to pick up traffic. I might start up another journal for one of the side projects later on tonight for anyone interested.

Far from done here. I have three fairly major updates I want to make but a couple of days working on something different will keep me from burning out too much.

Lazy bro, update us!!!!!!!!!!

Already 2 months!

Sorry for the delay in updates I've been working on a bunch of different things and started traveling.

So some obvious findings so far which nobody will be surprised about:
  1. Domains with a good history and links work better. No duh.
  2. English SERPS are harder to crack with better spam prevention and less competition.
The majority of my sites are new domains and in English. They get some search traffic but nothing to write home about. Nothing to make it a system work scaling.

One option is to set up a scraper and drop catcher again and try to get expired domains. Not a massive fan of this strategy since it creates a bottleneck and last I heard Google is changing the rules with how it treats expired domains. The other option is going to non-English markets but that means having to find offers in languages I don't speak and working on content quality is guesswork and Google translate.

It could just be that the sites will take more time to start pulling in better traffic. I'm dripping content relatively slowly compared to some and the domains could use some age.

I have other projects on at the moment which require work and some potential new stuff coming up so I'm not really looking to do a massive overhaul of anything just yet.

What I might do is buy a link package or two and see if that's a viable way to go. If I do like $200 per site in links and that helps it get viable traffic then it's still relatively scalable.

How do you index the inner post pages? Or you index the domain and wait for google to pick up the inner posts naturally.
