You said your theory of splogging- Can you please spell them out at least in broad terms
thanks in advace
I should have maybe said it was good for my theory behind the content building. My theory of splogging is Google generally knows when something is not unique but there's just a stupid amount of longtail searches if you post a million pages they'll turn up on the SERP somewhere.
Aren`t you afraid of Adsense ban for copypasted content?
I don't use Adsense for a couple of reasons but yes, this would be one of them. If you look at the small print most affiliate networks have the same rules against it. There is absolutely a risk and I've already seen a couple of thousand dollars lost to a banned account from something like this. But I'm not overly worried about it.
There are workarounds and I'm not reliant on any one method or network. If I get the traffic I can convert it with something.
Updates:
Despite a couple of hundred bucks in profit the last few days I've been struggling with motivation. Now that I've thought about it it's hard to shake the long hours I've been doing and I've been feeling pretty worn down so I've not got much done at all.
Spoke to the day job on Monday. Followed up on Friday only to find out nothing had been done. Got the climbing job this weekend but I'm loaded with the cold so even that is looking pretty rough. Trying to get a few days off next week and get back to training again to get my head back in the game.
Despite the lack of actual work I've been seeing some good results from some tests and all going well there'll be some scaling in that direction in the next week or two.
The main splogging sites are in need of some work. Discovered a bug in the code which is a fairly simple fix I just haven't brought myself to do it. There's been some steady growth which has been a good proof of concept now I'm just looking to fix it up a bit and scale it some more.
I've been debating complete automation vs semi-manual curation. For one of the parasite projects I built a little web client which lets me accept, deny or edit a post before it goes live. This has been effective in improving the quality and it is still a lot faster than doing it manually but does obviously create a bottleneck.
When moderation is involved I think it's proving to be worthwhile. The tests running this week certainly performed better than the fully automated alternatives and the money would cover the time - or outsourcing.
I'm considering applying it to the self hosted content. Flies in the face of being able to put out 10,000 pages a day or whatever but my theory is by improving the content the whole site would perform better. I *think* this explains the poor performance of some sites vs the fairly quick results of others because I am seeing a pattern which human moderation would fix.
Of course then it's back to the balance between low quality but high automation vs higher quality with a bottleneck. At the end of the day it needs testing to see if it's going to be worthwhile.
Lastly I stumbled into an interesting concept which technically would be 100% legit splogging. I knew of the site but started to see it in the SERPS for that niche. At first I thought it would be personalised results but turns out Google was happy with it.
I like it in theory. The downside is I don't know if I'd want to do it with WordPress. I've been wanting to try this with static pages anyway but I'm really not much of a front end developer. I *think* I can cobble the framework I want together but it might take a couple of days. It's on the to do list but then again so are a million other things.
