Splogging in 2018

You said your theory of splogging- Can you please spell them out at least in broad terms
thanks in advace

I should have maybe said it was good for my theory behind the content building. My theory of splogging is Google generally knows when something is not unique but there's just a stupid amount of longtail searches if you post a million pages they'll turn up on the SERP somewhere.

Aren`t you afraid of Adsense ban for copypasted content?

I don't use Adsense for a couple of reasons but yes, this would be one of them. If you look at the small print most affiliate networks have the same rules against it. There is absolutely a risk and I've already seen a couple of thousand dollars lost to a banned account from something like this. But I'm not overly worried about it.

There are workarounds and I'm not reliant on any one method or network. If I get the traffic I can convert it with something.

Updates:

Despite a couple of hundred bucks in profit the last few days I've been struggling with motivation. Now that I've thought about it it's hard to shake the long hours I've been doing and I've been feeling pretty worn down so I've not got much done at all.

Spoke to the day job on Monday. Followed up on Friday only to find out nothing had been done. Got the climbing job this weekend but I'm loaded with the cold so even that is looking pretty rough. Trying to get a few days off next week and get back to training again to get my head back in the game.

Despite the lack of actual work I've been seeing some good results from some tests and all going well there'll be some scaling in that direction in the next week or two.

The main splogging sites are in need of some work. Discovered a bug in the code which is a fairly simple fix I just haven't brought myself to do it. There's been some steady growth which has been a good proof of concept now I'm just looking to fix it up a bit and scale it some more.

I've been debating complete automation vs semi-manual curation. For one of the parasite projects I built a little web client which lets me accept, deny or edit a post before it goes live. This has been effective in improving the quality and it is still a lot faster than doing it manually but does obviously create a bottleneck.

When moderation is involved I think it's proving to be worthwhile. The tests running this week certainly performed better than the fully automated alternatives and the money would cover the time - or outsourcing.

I'm considering applying it to the self hosted content. Flies in the face of being able to put out 10,000 pages a day or whatever but my theory is by improving the content the whole site would perform better. I *think* this explains the poor performance of some sites vs the fairly quick results of others because I am seeing a pattern which human moderation would fix.

Of course then it's back to the balance between low quality but high automation vs higher quality with a bottleneck. At the end of the day it needs testing to see if it's going to be worthwhile.

Lastly I stumbled into an interesting concept which technically would be 100% legit splogging. I knew of the site but started to see it in the SERPS for that niche. At first I thought it would be personalised results but turns out Google was happy with it.

I like it in theory. The downside is I don't know if I'd want to do it with WordPress. I've been wanting to try this with static pages anyway but I'm really not much of a front end developer. I *think* I can cobble the framework I want together but it might take a couple of days. It's on the to do list but then again so are a million other things.

What you say about manualy creating splogs? Maybe it will be more quality then automat?
What do you think 1 long article with 10k words better then 10 shirt articles with 1k?
What do you think about agregated content for articles? Does it works if i put in article different peaces of content from other sources?

hey i im new here and i wanted to learn about splogging but i can not find any method related to splogging in blackhatworld so can u plz. i mean explain me how it works and how we can earn money

Man, you're my hero! I guess we are in similar position about skills. I can program too and you gave me good idea about how to get better results in my experiment (I'm building a niche news site). Thanks!

What you say about manualy creating splogs? Maybe it will be more quality then automat?

I'm not OP, but I'm sure manual gets better result in the long run than pure autoblogs. With manual review/building, you get to fix small details easily.

splog = spam blog. If you want to learn about it, you should search in Google/Bing about "splog", "spam blog", "autoblog" etc. Briefly, you are trying to build a website able to feed itself with new content automatically. If you have a good monetization way and its content has enough quality, you could make some money there.

But it isn't so easy as you can think.

I didn`t mean to create unique content. I`m about copy paste content created from different sources. I think copy pasted content can bring near 10 visitors per day from 100 articles. So for 1000 vis I must have 10000 articles created manually :-)

Good luck man. Drop me a message if you want to talk shop at some point. :)

In manual splogging do u use a spinner to get the article unique and readable ?

I have a bunch of different content builds I'm trying out at the moment. Some do involve spinning but I wouldn't say I use them to make the article readable. Despite what the sales pages say they're all junk and I've tried them all. Computers are getting better - but they can't write content yet. They write a mean Harry Potter script though.

Only one way to find out. Well technically there's a couple but you know what I mean. Go test! Copied content would read a lot better than spun but whether or not it would rank I can't tell you for sure.

So updates:

Some mixed news in the splogging. Mostly good. Some really good news in the burnout/real-life arena. I get that some of you don't want to hear about that and that's cool - skim past it but it does have a pretty big impact on the project.

First up the real-life stuff then.

The day job went for it so I'm swapping to 20 hours a week over the weekend and I handed in my notice to the other job. It won't kick in for a few weeks but the prospect alone of not working every single day is just so huge for me. Over the last few years I tried some real life stuff I just wasn't ready for. I worked a full-time job (and then some). I had a decent flat myself because I felt that's what adults should do.

So now I'm going to take my new found freedom and totally go the other way. Back when I very first got into IM/SEO I took the money I'd set aside to backpack with. I needed a laptop and I needed startup capital. In most ways - I don't regret this. I probably wouldn't be where I am if I hadn't kind of fallen into SEO at that time but one of my biggest regrets is not traveling enough. And I won't get into it but over the last couple of months I've been dismantling my life. In a good way. The crazy hours was just the last piece of that puzzle.

So I've got my new motivation in mind now. I'm either looking at doing some digital nomad shit and going to Thailand or something to rent somewhere in the sun and hack the shit out of some code for a while. Or try the vanlife out for a while. Considering I'm a climber and I know people who do this it's not that crazy a prospect. Either of these is going to mean working from a laptop rather than a bunch of screens at a big desk. But it's also going to mean a big boost to my psych and just general happiness.

So while I figure out exactly how I'm going to blow up my life some more let's talk splogging updates. My motivation is back and in full force. I've got a few weeks left with crazy hours but the prospect alone of that changing has been enough.

Had some *great* news this with a new vendor. They technically really don't like this kind of traffic so I may have dressed it up a little. The guy who asked the other day if I worried Adsense was going to ban me? Yeah I'm expecting this to be at least $3,000 a month so that might be a bit of a gut punch if they change their mind. But again I have a backup plan if they do. Took a bit of setting up but this should start kicking in soon.

The parasite projects have had some... mixed reviews lately. One test proved successful in ranking over a few months while another had a strong start but got hammered pretty quickly after that. Still too early to tell for sure yet. There's still a bunch I need to work on and scale with this and that's what I'll be working on tonight and tomorrow.

The self-hosted side of things has stagnated a bit. The less performing sites are getting that trickle of traffic and the better ones are still doing better but no great jumps in traffic going on at the moment. The codebase is in need of some work. The manual bottleneck is killing me because I haven't had the time/motivation for the project and I'm still in two minds over how much of a quality control bottleneck I want on this and I've still to build the new framework for the front end stuff. I've also been noticing some definte groaning from the web servers which I need to get ahead of. It definitely works though and I'm definetly getting my psych back so I do expect to make some massive changes here over the next two weeks or so even.

If you add something 'manual' it will not be a 'splogg'

Grab some content genrator - thow mass content dups - flood with dirty contextuals -go crazy with big G.

do u out source any kind of link building at present ?

I haven't so far - but that's about to change.

is there any up date coming

I've been incredibly strapped for time and it's an SEO journal so updates are going to be slow.

It wouldn't fit in with the original definition of splog or autoblog but trust me it's entirely possible for a site to have an element of manual review and still be a spam-blog. I'm doing a mix of both and the ones with a manual element are outperforming the others I just haven't decided if it's worthwhile yet.

So. Updates.

Three cheques (checks for you Americans) for this project in this week totally around $3500. Not all of that earned in the last 30 days but it's going well.

I've officially dialed back to part-time work. I'm doing 3 1/2 days a week for the next month or so and that goes down to 2 1/2 after that. I'm pretty excited to be able to put more time into training and relaxing a little. But the idea of going to Chang Mai or something this year is definitely growing on me so I've got some plans on how I'll be making that happen.

First up? A massive overhaul of the back end system. Testing a crap ton of stuff at once was great but I'm just tripping up over myself now and it's creating a time drain in my workflow to keep everything running let alone scale into new methods. So I'm redesigning the entire thing so one central workflow can more or less handle every system. The upshot should be less work and more traffic while massively reducing the work I have to do to scale the system. It's off to a good start but will probably take a few days to get up and running.

I'm also looking at overhauling the front end. I've had hosting grumbles and I'm heavily considering testing some sites with a custom static front end rather than WordPress. I'm not much of a front-end developer and while I'd like to be able to do some stuff for this I find it a little too much like watching paint dry so I'll see if I can bring myself to actually get it done.

Also a lot of changes on the parasite splogging side of things. Indexing has been kicking my ass here. Moderation has been kicking my ass here. I managed to fuck up an SQL query at 4 AM which wiped a bunch of shit and kicked my own ass.

However.

The massive overhaul of the back-end system is going to make a lot of this easier and I've got a bunch of new stuff coming for this side of the project including a potential new JV.

Couple of busy days ahead with a little travel down to England (if the snow allows). A bunch of free time next week so hopefully some productivity before the next update.

Hiring a VA can be a nightmare. I also struggle finding decent products to sell and decent, reliable distribution.

Not entirely sure if this is a bot comment but I'll bite. I personally hate hiring and it's something I've decided not to do for now. Going to focus on removing the human element as much as possible. I have a bigger issue with JV's personally. Bad history of working with other marketers trying to steal my system (although it doesn't hurt my ego that they failed) so I work with non marketers which means other problems.

Bit of an update since I got further than I thought I would.

If you've been around IM or working yourself for even a fairly short time YouTube and forums throw a lot of motivational crap at you. For the most part, I'm not big on this stuff. Motivation is lacking more often than not so it's all about developing the discipline to make yourself work anyway.

But while having my lunch today I was reading some stuff on Chang Mai. Cheap, good weather, digital nomad scene, climbing scene, martial art scene and fills my criteria for wanting to solo travel this year. And did I mention cheap?

So even though this is my busy point of the week I managed to find the energy to get coding. I really could see myself getting a 90 day visa and checking it out. But a little more capital in the account will make visas easier and give me a little more travel options while I'm out there. And diversifying my methods a bit is a good plan anyway.

I'm ahead of schedule on the rework now. Usually I know the boring grindy bits take me a while because I hate doing them.

With the boring part almost done I can start on the more interesting things. Redesigning the content I'm using to make better use of this new framework and I'm going to run a few tests iframing an offer or opt-in with the splogs to see how that goes. I usually figure Google won't approve of that kind of thing and stick to contextual ads or banners but nothing about this process is going to have their approval anyway.

Going to set a little time aside to write a few thousand words and pick out a BHW link package or two for one of the sites. Didn't start this project to do this but I've said from the start - whatever pays. Other than that I'm going to leave this site running as a normal splog and just see what happens.

The new base framework means I can finally put the two new parasite models together without a massive headache. I'd say they're about 80% done just need a little tidying and testing so a day each would probably get them live.

One I can't give too much information on unfortunately but it's a pretty big departure from the stuff I've been doing so far. It's new territory for me so I've no idea how it's going to do but *in theory* it could be highly scalable and potentially the fastest ranking of any of this.

Or it might completely flop. I guess I'll find out.

Full day at the day job and training tomorrow night but I'm hoping to get at least a basic version of this live for Sunday night and then the new content early next week.

Ouch eye hurt, bro, could u share some of your sblog strategy to us?

Ouch eye hurt, bro, could u share some of your sblog strategy to us?

Yeah if you're not a fan of the wall of text this thread won't be for you. My current strategy is basically spam as many pages as you can in as many different ways and see what happens. Throw enough shit at the wall something will stick.

Quick updates:

Thought I'd be behind on where I wanted to be. Lost a few days to travel and managed to fuck up my back mid-workout today by being an idiot.

But it turns out random doodles and post-it notes all over the place is not the best way to keep track of a bunch of projects. Who knew. Whilst sat on the train I tried to get some kind of structure and planning in place so I know what I need to be working on.

Having an actual organized plan controlling what I'm working on is... novel for me. But damn has it worked. I've got a bunch done including a new monetization test up, one of the new parasite platforms with just a tiny bit of scaling needing added and a script doing a bunch of grunt work I was really not looking forward to doing. I finished a chunk of the new main framework which already removes me as a bottleneck in the workflow quite a lot.

One of the original setups which contributes about $7-900 of the projects monthly income needs some serious work. I have 20x the number of pages up but due to some indexing changes a few months ago (which I didn't notice until recently) the vast majority are not actually getting in traffic. So the focus at the moment is to tidy up a couple of things here including some mass interlinking to help get these indexed properly.

Tons to do. Going to have to give a little time to my dropshipping and other code this week as well but if I can keep this pace up then this entire splogging project should be a very different beast by the end of next week.

Thanks for the update and the new text format lol.

Sry but I tried to read as much as I can about your old updates, still a bit confused here. Does this $900 set up belong to Sblog or just your early project? Maybe I missed the answer from former texts.

I am very interested with your sblog strategy, because I want to start same thing soon, and completely no idea how to do it. As seem from your thread, you have enough knowledge to do such thing, though for me, its completely no clue in my head lol.

I thought use wordAi or somewhat to spin the articles and then manually correct the error of grammar bla bla use grammarly, then post as many shits as I can, no idea if this would work or not, maybe as you said, throw ton of those may get some results lol.

Another thing I need answer is if you post ton of articles, you need VPS hosting right? Or normal shared hosting can handle it well.

Wish you luck on your journey! I used to be in the splogging game with dec11 a few years ago, and did make some good money redirecting the traffic. Having it all fully automated is the way to go, otherwise simply building them to keep up with de-indexation becomes a full time job in itself.

New text format? Just a shorter wall of text but it's not likely to change I'm afraid. Too many years writing backlink content I do out loud thinking and waffling. I don't do succinct.

It's from this project - just an earlier iteration of it. I have some on shared hosts and I can say they definitely struggle. And I'm pretty sure if I keep pushing it there'll be something in the TOS about taking up resources. Not that they're great on the uptime or loading speed front anyway. Yeah, I'd suggest self-hosting.

Wish I got in on it years ago. I did technically have one ran by a WP plugin but I didn't really know what I was doing and it probably didn't make more than a few cents with Adsense.

Updates:

Hurting my back slowed me down a bit sitting at the desk was a chore. To top that off while I'm still working the other job on Sundays for the next couple of weeks I've also got the busiest week of the year for the part-time gig so I'm likely going to have to be pulling some overtime there to keep on top of it. But enough of a sob story. It's going to be a rough week ahead but I have shit to do.

I put a rough version of the new parasite system up. It's a limited version of what I have planned for it but it means the framework is done and even if I can't look back to it for a few weeks I'll get an idea for how the indexing looks like for it. The new monetization method is looking promising. Basically looking at list building with splog traffic but in a different way than I've ever done list building in the past. It'll lend itself quite well to the splogging strategy.

I have some really fun looking parts ahead rebuilding the content format and plugging everything into the new framework but I've had some really boring awful grindy work to do first and I had to force myself to finish that. It's easy to put off work when you know it's going to be boring as all hell but keeping myself organized and forcing myself to do it before doing the fun stuff is going to pay off. Putting the finishing touches on it now. Honestly, this part of the project is making money and these changes should absolutely pay off but it's not interesting to work on and there's a definite bottleneck with it which I'm sick of.

It'll probably take a few weeks to run before I have to do some more work on it and finally consider that project done but I'm thrilled to have it running and out of the way so I can move on to the fun stuff rebuilding the content strategy and hooking everything up to the new framework. The new strategy is going to mean a lot more pages being produced with less of a bottleneck and it's based on the tests so far which are absolutely the top performing in terms of traffic.

While this is going to remove me as a bottleneck for content I'm going to add one caveat to that. On some sites (not all) I'm going to be putting together some chunky bits of content manually. For the list building, I'll need content anyway and I want to see if the splog posts affect ranking pages and vice versa. Plus after I tick off a few things I'm looking to get back to automated backlink scripts so some decent looking content will help that.

Having to dedicate a bit more time to one or two other projects as well. Long-term travel plans are starting to look more and more viable and I'm making enough at the moment to be pretty comfortable in the places I'm looking at but I'd feel better with some more diversity.

Hi! What a good journey to follow along with. Rooting for you that you do succeed. Will be back to check in with this.

So a Google update comes and the splogging journal goes quiet for a week...

I've just been busy. I haven't had too much of a dig into the update yet honestly but it did cost me about 20% of my parasite traffic but hasn't caused much of a blip other than that. Some of the splogs actually saw a bit of an uptick from it. Not celebrating but not a game changer. Just the nature of SEO.

Finishing the last shift of the climbing job this weekend and I've had to do some overtime for the dev job since this was a predictably busy week. It turns out ditching huge chunks of your life to go travel indefinitely takes some time and planning as well. Sticking everything into a list and forcing myself to (mostly) stick to it has been a game changer though. I'm used to having a bunch of half finished projects and I feel like I'm being a lot more productive now.

he list building test has been surprisingly effective. I haven't been split testing or anything yet (just haven't had the time) but the opt-in and open rates are looking good. From an SEO perspective, I like removing affiliate links from Google's view (as much as possible anyway) and any content I create for the list I can also feed the blog with. I guess it's also a bit of future proofing if the splog traffic gets taken down I still have lists to promote to. Whether or not I'll keep it going I'm not sure yet but it's looking like an option.

The new content design kind of changed a lot last minute. I was doing some catch-up reading on Rank Brain and what Google has been doing since I've been mostly out of the SEO game for a while. Trying to account for that with this build while implementing everything I've learned from the current tests and fitting it into the new framework and dealing with some poorly documented and erratic APIs.

It's been... a frustrating experience. At this rate, it's probably a few more days before I have everything finished (predicting a busy weekend to slow things down). Once it's done I'm probably taking a break from this project for a while. I like the new content build but I'll need to wait and see what Google makes of it so I might as well spend the time working on some non-SEO projects to get some capital together for traveling.
