[SPEAKER] - What Would You Like To Learn?

Hi,

I'll be speaking at the UnGagged conference this year and I thought I would give myself a quick introduction and also ask you guys what you would like to learn more about.

My name is Matthew Woodward I'm 27 years old and live in the UK.

I first got started online when I was 13 years old writing game reviews for a site. This led to a passion for competitive online gaming and I setup my first site for the community to share videos of each other in action - that was years before YouTube to put that into perspective.

I had no idea you could make money on the internet at that point, in fact I had a paper round just to pay for the server!

I just enjoyed playing internet and I was lucky enough to grow up with the dawn of Google when Yahoo ruled the land and link building did not exist.

Over the coming years the internet gained popularity and I developed my skills in various areas.

I ended up as head of online marketing for one of the biggest distributors in Europe leading major global brands to online success.

But in reality, the corporate life sucks! It has a very slow and rigid structure which just cannot keep up with the dynamic pace of the web. Most of the guys calling the shots just don't get it.

So eventually I went alone and followed my passion researching, building and ranking over 40 sites in 3 years fascinated by the technical side of SEO.

This became like repetitive shelf stacking and lost its challenge over the years. If I'm honest, I do miss the dynamic challenges and pressure the corporate life brought on a daily basis.

Even if it was mostly idiots whacking themselves off with red tape instead of just getting it done and delivering the numbers.


About My Talk

I'm going to deliver a lively no holds barred presentation about how I built a 6 figure blog. I will take you over my shoulder with full transparency of what it takes & precisely how I did it.

1 On 1 Sessions

During the conference I will be providing 1 on 1 advice to people. I will sit down with you, look at your site and discuss your overall strategy and help you form a plan of action to move it forward.

These sessions will be invite only and I will be announcing more details on them to my blogs newsletter in due course.

I think it would be awesome to get a BREAKDOWN of an average day in the life of Matthew Woodward (NOT including when you are living the .com lifestyle ). Even though you are completely transparent online, you mysteriously produce so much quality content in single time frame, that I sometimes ask myself how and where you spend your time. I'm sure others could agree!

Thats an awesome idea - consider it part of the talk!

Just to give you an idea this is what I have previously written on the subject-

For anyone that has followed the blogs growth it is very easy to be dazzled with the illusion of the blogging lifestyle.

On the surface it appears that I make a bunch of money, travelling the world having a jolly ole time!

That is not the reality.

The reality is starting work at 6am and finishing at 10pm. By a Wednesday lunch time I?ve already knocked out a standard full time 40 hour week.

It?s physically & mentally impossible for me to keep that pace everyday (trust me I tried) but an average working week consists of 70-80 hours across 7 days.

Quite often I?ll snap out of work mode a starving quivering mess about to piss my pants. Just seem to get locked in and forget about the real world!

While I have managed to travel a lot this year and hit a different country each month, let me tell you ? they are the most stressful times for me.

Every day I don?t work around 3-4 hours work builds up. So if I go away for a week, I?ve got around 25 hours work to catch up on when I return. On top of the existing work load.

So don?t be fooled the illusion of the blogging lifestyle it might look like ?the life? on the surface but the reality is gruelling hard work with great personal sacrifice.

I fucking love it though.

Funny, we're similar in a way, I was a pro CS gamer until 15, years later I had around 40 sites which gave me 6 figures which none of them exist nowadays =P

2) How many hours do you spend a day (or a week) to promote your blog on other channels?
3) If you start a new blog today would you do it differently?

In your blog you write how you did it. When you look back, what would you do different, if you had to start over? (and why)

Want to know How your site traffic didnt get affected ? Main traffic source ? Google with ranking ? I mean after negative seo.

Charles is a very young man with a great set of skills that will achieve great success in his life, sometimes his youth gets the better of him and I've seen him grow the past year but I am not jumping to any conclusions and my opinion is entirely irrelevant.

I don't think this is fair at all? Lets say that Charles is found guilty (which he HASN'T been). It isn't like the charges he will be found guilty on have anything to do with the SEO and marketing techniques he has been teaching, so why would Matthew's credibility be effected by this? I think we should stick to the marketing techniques here

Matt is speaking at UnGagged, Windmill is attending so I felt compelled to say a little something. Myself and Matt had a chat about Charles back in April. He's young and a little head strong (the arrogance of youth!) but I considered him to be a speaker at UnGagged. When we have future events Charles is still on my radar. UnGagged runs towards courage whether naughty or nice but runs away from 'PubCon' safe censored BS. Perhaps this is not the place to air ill conceived hypothesis?
