Spam Comments

Hi, everyone. I am still relatively new to BHW. But I had a thought about spam comments on a WordPress blog and I need someone to tell me if it is a stupid idea (it probably is).

My WordPress blog captures tons of spam comments each day that are filtered into the Spam section of the comments in WP.

In theory, could you edit these comments, remove the spam links, and post them to make a website seem legitimate?

Most of those comments are shitty AI generated content or hand written one which most of the time will not relate to the main content on that page of your website.

Just delete them all. I've personally not seen any study that says comments add anything to your rankings so why try to keep spammy ones?

You're better off even disabling comments completely, I do that on most of my websites.

Yes, you could.
If you're in a niche which gets a lot of user engagement, it may even be beneficial, as people are more likely to engage if others already have.
If you edited the content yourself, as you suggested, then the content could even be relevant to the page.

But another (rather important) question is whether or not this is worth your time.
I would say it most likely is not worth your time.
You could probably spend your time doing more important things.

By the way, if you don't want those spam comments to show up in your backend, you could stop them with a honeypot.

yes you can if you want, just go to comments section --> spam ---> apply for "not spam" comment, edit comment, remove url.

The problem with that is I have no clue what else to do with my time. I have two websites that I admin that are pretty niche. One is adult content, the other is semi-adult content. I've been trying to successfully monetize both forever and have been failing miserably. But I persist. I have been through so many different publishing networks (adsterra, crakrevenue, yllix, exoclick, propellerads, admaven, to name a few) and have not had much success.

I joined BHW to maybe find some guidance. I thought the user experience on my websites was severely lacking and my idea with the spam comments and changing them was maybe to get more engaged with the site(s) and content.
