Well since joining BlackHat World almost a year ago I've thought of ways that I could contribute to the forum, but almost all of the great ideas I have used, are some where already in the forum. So I figured I could contribute a little information that will increase your brain activity and help you feel more energetic, ultimately allowing you to get more accomplished.

I'm not the scientific guy, and if you want to go look at the research on this stuff, go ahead, but I'm not going to give a bunch of statistics and analytical data. Here are just a few things that will dramatically affect your brain activity.

Exercise of course, this is obvious.

Eating healthy. I incorporate all sorts of brain foods into my diet. Berries, omega 3 acids, oats, spinach, walnuts, salmon, and etc. You can get entire lists of foods good for the brain off of Google. Also take into consideration that your body uses more energy to digest foods that are harder for the body to break down, in turn making you tired.

I eat a Juti Bar for breakfast, then a large portion of veggies for lunch with walnuts and flax seed, and olive oil (for the omega 3), then dinner is usually a healthy fish or organic free range turkey, chicken, or other seafood. I eat beef every now and then but it really takes a toll on your digestive process. Eating lemon helps after beef. I absolutely stay away from the swine. I love pork ribs, but it's terrible for your health. I stay away from sugars and I have a few cups of black coffee a day.

To touch back on olive oil a bit, there are new studies saying that 40 ml of olive oil has been proven to increase cognitive function in Alzheimers suffers within 90 minutes of ingesting. :) A little perspective on how powerful olive oil is.

Sun Exposure! And this is the kicker. Sun exposure is probably the most impacting contributor to your brain function and energy levels. Melanin is so important to so many aspects of your health and is increased with sun exposure. Serotonin is as well.

You also get tons of Vitamin D from the sun as well, which is a no-brainer why this is important when it comes to the fact that Vitamin D increases cognitive abilities. I try to get 1-2 hours a day in the sun.

Being in business for myself in the SEO field, I found my relationship with the sun getting more distant. I didn't realize that this would trigger huge amounts of depression. I didn't know what the problem was. I just felt depressed......... a lot. I was making more money then I had in my life and had no worries or concerns, yet still had this feeling I couldn't shake. It also made me feel tired during the day hours. Well, my fiance is a videographer and had a video to shoot for a hip hop artist out in the desert one day and I had skipped sleep the night before to get more done. Figured I'd crash on the 4 hour car ride there. The sun was blazing that day and must've been energizing me pretty good because on 28 hrs no and no sleep, I was not tired at all. Then we hit the desert, 110 degrees. I was scared that with no sleep and the heat, I was sure to drop, NOPE. I felt so good and energized even though the heat was nearly unbearable, that I was filming and running around like a mad man. It was surprising and lead me to worshipping the sun ;) jk.

I have more energy then I have ever had in my life, I sleep 3-4 hours a night no problem, and it's all contributed to exercise, my diet, and sun exposure. Hope this will come in handy to some of you!

    Cheers

All good, sensible advice - a good diet and plenty of exercise will do more for your health than anything else.

The only thing I would say is that 3-4 hours sleep is going to be bad for you in the long run.

In the same way our muscles produce lactic acid when we use them, our brain produces toxins too - and these toxins need to be removed.

The reason we need sleep is so our brain can remove the toxins it produces during the day. Tiredness is our body's way of triggering this process.

Not removing the toxins is unhealthy.

Although there needs to be more studies done, there is some evidence that in the long term, not getting enough sleep (and the resulting excess of toxins) can contribute to things like Alzheimer's.

I know exactly would you mean about the sun exposure. I've spent many days inside and after a while I felt really burned out. I couldn't concentrate nor could I get any work done during the day. From now on I try my best to get about 2-3 hours of fresh air and some sun to function.

I'm aware that no sleep can contribute to many problems. I need to hire a ton of people. Been trying out some of the people here at BHW and nothing really has worked out yet, so unfortunately I'm running an entire company by myself.

I have a few VAs to do the little tedious stuff, but when it comes to the SEO and web design, people just don't cover every corner like me and for now I have to work myself crazy to keep the company going and clients happy. I've pulled 2 all nighters this week and it has really taken a toll on me. And I'm actually in for another one tonight. Coming to BHW and reading around the forum a bit is about the only break I get.

My Fiance hates it. Oh well, the path to success I guess.
