Guys/gals offer a free this or that... links, bookmarks, articles, ideas to make money etc.

Many people take advantage of the offer and don't bother to thank the giver!

Caves... were you raised in caves?

Give the poster his/her due and at the very least thank them... if what they offered turned into real cash Rep them.

It totally bothers me that folks take the time to share and others do not take the 1/2 second to thank them.

Act freaking civil and give the those that share their proper due.

I see this on just about every forum/tracker/etc.... And it disgust me as well.... How can a link have 100's or 1000's of DL's and 25 "thanks"??

People have the "Crab in a pot" mentality....

I'm with you. Getting a VT report, uploading, finding mirrors, and writting content to promote the share almost isn't worth it.

If you have 100 visits, you may have 80 downloads, 8 'Thanks' and 4 replies.

I appreciate those that do give Thanks or a +Rep or at least a reply. Too many assume goodies will always be provided.

Some will say, "You should do it because you want to and expect nothing in return." All we want to know is that our time is not wasted and others appreciate it. That's it.

Totally agree. I'm sure most people overlook it, thinking that REP and thanks
aren't a big deal. I agree, but regardless its a nice way to show appreciation
for someones work/effort, especially if they are doing this for free.

I give rep/thanks to those that offer freebies, even if I was never received
anything from them.
 
Manners and respect come with education and solid parental guidance

Regretably millions do not seem to have those basics and disturbingly they do not care!

I disagree. Earlier this month a had a bunch of Google AdWord cards mailed to me. I typically throw them away but this time I came here and decided to share them. I posted the first 20 or so and had maybe 2 'Thanks'. Based on that fact alone, you could assume that people had no interest in them. So, I stopped for a few hours and then people started PM's and hounding the thread for them. So, I started posting more. It wasn't until I mentioned that someone gave me a negative rep before people started hitting the Thanks and Rep button.

It's really a gauge though.

If I use GSA Email Spider v2 and share it and it has 100 Thanks, and then I get v3, the 100 Thanks tells me that I should take the time to share it with my fellow members. If I only get 10 Thanks, I'm not going to waste my time as that shows that people are not interested.

That's my thought. Again, it's a soap box and those that share stuff often most likely feel different than those that only download and never give back.

couldn't have said it better myself. it's frustrating when you give away a free service that you spent your valuable time on and people don't even appreciate it or even reply.
 
It's just plain courtesy.

Those that have not done in the past do so.
 
It's how it always has been, and how it will always be. The majority will always be silent leechers, be it on BHW or any community where people share stuff.

So stop sharing I guess. Or truly accept that you share stuff to make BHW an awesome place. Although the majority don't thank you for it, it doesn't mean they're not grateful. If you know what you're sharing is worthwhile, do you really need people to validate that it helped them?

I don't disagree with you that it's only civil to thank someone, but just saying, it's a fact of life so why wind yourself up about it? If you're going to be a giver, then accept there will always be takers who don't express their gratitude, so do it for the pleasure of giving rather than receiving a "thank you"... otherwise you'll be perpetually pissed off - it's never going to change.

Your mindset is appropriate for someone who has been a member since August 2011 and have only thanked 11 people...
 
It is good manners to thank people and it speaks volumes about you when you do. It says you have education and are civilized.

I'm a big fan of Coyotte Assassin and BTB anyways...Thanks guys for all that you contribute to the forum.

Woah what's with the personal attack, I'm steering you towards inner peace (no thanks needed ;) ).

Fact: Majority do not thank.
Two sensible options: a) Stop sharing. b) Share for the sake of sharing.
Third option: Share and continue to be frustrated with an unchangeable fact.

I resent your comment CoyoteAssassin, I help who I can with my limited knowledge and I thank the people who've posted something that I found useful, it's no reflection of my mentality. Not everyone will use BHW in the same way or as avidly as you do, no need to try to put someone down based on their stats.

I've always either given rep, or directly posted a 'thank you' comment in the thread, rather than clicked the 'Thanks' button. I think that a large, seizure-inducing list of multi-coloured thankers anchoring a popular post can look ugly and, in the worst instances, can even disrupt the flow of a thread. However, I can understand its convenience for some people, and of course your central point - that generosity should be acknowledged - is indisputable.

This is why I quit sharing here. Bunch of greedy ungrateful noobs. I don't do it for the thanks, I do it because I'm trying to help. But it gets to me that I am not appreciated.
