So I got an email that someone in Japan wants to buy a domain name I own for 35,000 and they want to talk to me via "Telegram" I don't even know what Telegram really is but apparently all these types of things want to use "Telegram" because why? Anyway after Googling I'm guessing this will be an appraisal scam? Althoujgh so far they haven't asked me to buy anything just contact via "Telegram"

Do you think the domain is worth $35k?

If not, I'd play along and post the screenshots of the chat for the BHW to cheer up on this weekend.

FYI, Telegram is an instant messenger like snapchat/whatsapp.

Telegram is a messenger app, that's secure and encrypted.

See what they say

I would see where this goes, keep us updated and be cautious. :)

Telegram is like whatsapp but works better, and doesn't share the information to anyone, is a normal app of chat.

Just keep the convo going and troll

It will probably be a scam but as others have suggested, you have an opportunity to troll them if you have nothing better to do for an hour or so.

If they say you need to buy anything it's a scam straight away but it won't hurt to listen to them to see.

Doesn't hurt to initiate a conversation with this so called buyer of Japan.
Talk to the person, make sure the conversation is interesting and is turning out in his favor until its not, share the screenshots here and we will all have some fun trolling the guy after you are done with him

I see other people trying to sell domain names similar to mine for thousands of dollars on Flippa but I didn't have any luck selling mine on Flippa. I did not pay for any extra promotion though. It's only two words dot com.

But anyway yeah I downloaded Telegram sent them a message. I purplosely didn't tell him which domain I had and he said "tell me the domain name cause I buy a lot of them." (fails first test) I did. He quotes $35,000 then starts in with "do you have a certificate it is required by the bank" talk to my bla blah on Telegram. Seems they like sending people through a line of people since the first person who sent me the email claimed to be a broker then he told me to talk to the guy who wants to buy (which immediately seems fake a broker would never put you in direct touch with a client because they could miss out on their cut.) then this guy is telling me to talk to another broker about the "certificate" and yes that's what Google told me this probably was.A "certificate scam"
Sigh
Didn't even want to waste my time downloading the Telegram thing to be honest. So they want me to contact a third person before they'll ask me to pay for the certificate I guess. Oh and this is the other part of the scam. The certificate HAS to be in JAPANESE so that's how they can tell you it has to be done through their service.

Sorry I'm not going to entertain you guys by trolling because they have my basic info from WHOIS and reading up about these things trolling scammers can lead to them striking out at you if you troll the wrong ones.

I read about this tech journalist who trolled a scammer on TeamViewer the scammer tried to delete everything on his computer but he'd tricked the scammer with some kind of fake computer thing that wasn't his real computer I'm not sure what it was.

Looking at the amount of threads OP has created about this damn domain it is either totally shit or gonna make her millions lol, either that or they are fishing for noobs.

Those aren't all about one domain they were about the general topic of domain name selling. In fact I have never mentioned the specific domain names I've bought at all because I am not an upgraded member and not trying to sell things here.

No the scam is they ask you to pay for a certifcate from a certain company so you pay $150 for the certicate in Japanese that proves there is no trade mark infringment and then you never get the $35,000. He's already told me he cannot send me the money without this "certificate".

He hasn't actually asked me to pay for the certificate yet just ranted on about how it must have a Japanese certificate and to talk to a THIRD person who will help me about the certificate.

Just googling this some more--- one person trolled these type of people with " I also have APPRAISALSCAM.COM if you're interested". lol

That's a very common scam I have had it happen to me also and I have heard others on here who have had the same thing but like you I could see straight through it and told them to piss off.

Well I didn't know about the scam but I was suspicious and just googling the intial email was enough to bring up similar stories even though the initial contacts didn't mention the certificate ugg they send you through supposedly three different people before they ask for the money although I think it might all be the same person.

The stories I found about this type of scam were not using the same names and things as these guys are- so this is a new set of people trying the same scam or using different names.

If one person avoids getting scammed by reading this thread I guess it was worth making.
