Somebody please help my brother!

Hello family,




I?m not really sure if this is the right place to post this thread but honestly, I need your advice.




My brother has been struggling to make ends meet as a talented artist. He draws excellent portraits of anything he thinks about. Just recently, he drew a large portrait of my mum and it appeared almost REAL. I had to shed tears after witnessing such a wasted talent. I know about sites that pay you to write, blog, review music, rate products, and so on. But I have never heard about sites that pay you to draw.




He is such a talented young man and currently looking for the best way to showcase his work. He can draw ANYTHING; I mean EVERYTHING. But how can we help him? His close friend once advised him to upload his work on the internet but most of them were stolen and I ?m quite sure whoever did that made a decent amount of money out of it. I just want to give him hope once again.




Any ideas? Suggestions or recommendations?

why elance : more stable than fiverr , high payments also if you got hired

why ebay : sell his paintings I'm sure there are many art lovers in the world

Yeah Fiverr would be a great place to start, then get some good reviews in and you're on your way

then as time progresses, create a website and publish some of his work there

Let me have a look at them. But I hope they won't make him regret again. He lost hope on positing his work on the internet. So many people waiting to download, edit, upload and get paid for something they didn't do!

If he is skilled in art he might be good with ps.
If thats the case you can work together and he makes salespages/websites for you
and you both can bank from it.Or he can sell his design services like logo creation etc.
I know thats not drawing but thats what I would tell him

Upload some of his art on deviantart. There's a great community over there, it might help him get noticed. It should also help with sales if you decide too go the fiverr route or similar.
Could I see some of his work?

Ask him to make a new portfolio. Ask him to do research on what he can sell and let him focus on those things in his portfolio. There are online market sites like Guru, Elance, etc, where his portfolio would definitely interest many members/buyers.

He can focus on drawing commercial artworks for banners, etc. Web designing is a huge field and he can make a name somewhere in it. A suitable portfolio, esp about niche product designs would take him deep inside professional designing field. His talent can make him a great visualizer, 3D artist, commercial artist, graphics designer, a computer graphics designer-artist in world class exhibitions centers (I worked as one in 1990s), etc.

One of my uncles was a real top class artist of his time. One of his designs (a simple palm tree!!) became the face of a household name many years ago in my country and set him up for greater things in life. Today his son is a biz tycoon in a foreign country in a globally important field. That uncle began with absolute no money in late 1950s, grew on his artistic abilities, and imagine: the President of that foreign country (one of the top countries at that!) lunches regularly with him (when he is there to be with his son) and his son. Never underestimate one's artistic abilities.

So try to create some opportunities for your brother in this field of commercial arts and advertising. Drawing an art of his family will not help him earn bread and butter, but getting into commercial arts will help him dig gold.

If he is so talented, tell him to learn web design and digital graphics. There's so much money to be made online, logos, web design, arts, muscleteen, ebook covers, sales pages, flyers, business cards, advertisements signboards/cars/buses, there's so much that I'm sick of people who can't do such simple research.

Pivoting off deviantart is a solid call by kinlee. Moving towards fiverr won't make him millions, but he can move forward from there.

For those sticking with our mindset of design and logos and this and that, it's pencil\charcoal\paint to paper. Despite not being a new concept, he can profit from his labour of expression as it is.
