Some Questions Regarding Link Building for Niche Micro Sites

When link building for a niche micro site, I understand that the main techniques that are used involve commenting on other blogs, submitting to directories, submitting to social networking, etc., (please list any more you can think of) but aren't all these very spammy, non-relevant ways of getting back-links. Doesn't this make big G upset? And do they really help that much?

Also, if someone could list (or point to a thread that lists) a number of other ways to get backlinks, I would greatly appreciate it.

Your best bet would be to build a network of articles... that way you would get backlinks as well as targeted traffic when someone reads your relevant article.

A bunch of articles pointing to your money site and to some of the other articles pointing to your money site.
