Announced in May. Expected in June. Delayed to July. Then Gemini 3.6 Flash appeared first, Gemini 4 reportedly entered training, and competitors continued releasing new models.

At this point, Gemini 3.5 Pro feels less like an upcoming model and more like an urban legend.

Either they are cooking or cooked. I mean look at deepseek or other chinese modals. even with so much data google seems to not care.

Exactly. Either google is quietly preparing something big, or they are seriously losing momentum. With the amount of data, infrastructure, and talent they have, it is strange to see chinese labs shipping faster :)
 
I think googles going to win the ai race as their money is not in ai
 
Chinese models are wowing the world with the capabilities of every new model released. I won't Google for delaying. But knowing Google, let's wait and hold our breath. Gemini 3.5 might not be what they will release. But surely, they will release something.
 
honestly they probably just scrapped the 3.5 branding entirely and folded the tech into other updates... google always does this weird naming stuff. but yeah the delay is kinda crazy when you see how fast other labs are shipping. they definitely have the money to play the long game but corporate bureaucracy is clearly slowing them down
 
Small fast models get distilled from a big one. You need the large model trained and running internally to produce what the small one learns from. So a Flash release generally means the Pro-sized model exists, it's just being used as the teacher rather than shipped.
 
Honestly, at this point I'm starting to think Gemini 3.5 Pro is just a decoy to buy time while they rush out Gemini 4. If it ever drops, it'll probably be quietly buried under a "flash" update and we'll all move on. Classic Google move — overpromise, underdeliver, and hope we forget.
 
What if Gemini 3.5 pro is the friends we made along the way?
 
3.8 flash is kinda underrated
not a bad workhorse aslong you dont give it an essay of todolist to check off.
