Sleep Is An Addictive Illness

We have a limited amount of heartbeats in this life, use them wisely.

Great post!
Those are probably among the deepest words I've seen on here...! It's extremely frightening actually, looking at it that way, and yet it's truer than true - something we often forget as we procrastinate or stop following our dreams. (or on the other hand working 24/7) We always think we have so much time to enjoy our life later, yet we don't. It could all be over in a day.

On-topic: We all need sleep, in fact, I'm about to go back to bed (3pm) as I only slept 2 hours last night. But I also have a plan of getting up at 6am every morning - trying to work my way towards it, getting used to sleeping less. And it works! Make the best out of your time, but do sleep in every now and then, I doubt it's really unhealthy ^^

Sleep is required but we have been conditioned to believe that we require 8 hours continuous sleep, which is a myth.
This was created to make us work a full day for the oppressive overlords. j/k

Try having 4 hours at night and 2 hours mid afternoon.
Takes a while to get used to but you will be more productive.

That "j/k" just saved you some enemies. You seem to have slept well.

I can't do it. If I sleep less than 5 hours at night, I have a migraine the next day. If I sleep in the afternoon when I slept less than 5 hours the night before, the migraine is worse and I end up throwing up. I think that everyone is different and each person knows what feels right and what doesn't. Anything under 5 hours makes me sick, and anything over 9 hours makes me sick.

lol.......

Too bad the prevailing attitude about sleep is that it's the poor man's vacation".

It's real simple folks, sleep doesn't mean your slacking it means your body is restoring itself and more precisely sleep allows normal brain functioning by storing the day's memories.

If you don't sleep you die, ask Michael Jackson about the lack of REM sleep and if you have less sleep your effectiveness diminishes accordingly.

I rather have 12 hours of high level functioning than 18 hours of twilight. It's called working smarter rather than harder.

Comparing sleeping with drug addiction goes beyond stupidity. That guy is as dumb as a bag of hammers ("me" in the convo, not the OP). Tobacco being natural and sleep being natural are two completly different things. Any half decent imbecile should understand that.

I do understand OP's point of view. Sleep can be a bitch because even my self used to sleep a lot when I was teenager. The more you sleep the more you want/need to sleep.

My Dr says I need to sleep 9 hours at least but I dont sleep more than 5-6 hours for years and I am great!!! The same as food, if you eat 5k calories a day for a long period of time and next day only 1k you will be get a terrible day for sure. The same with sleeping, your body get used to it...

Madruga is reply makes totally sense to me. If you got bad health habits I am pretty sure you would need more sleep than a person who got good health habits. By good health habits I mean, healthy food, sports, getting some sun, etc.

By the way, search about lucid dreaming .
But dont feel down if you cant do it in the first times, even my self (and I do it for years) can't do it every time I try to. Its really hard and most of the times you will fail...but eventually some of the times you will get there and its an amazing experience =)

Years ago I saw a documentary that traumatized me for life. The man had a disease and he couldn't sleep. At the end of his life, he went mad.

With anything in life it is best to practice moderation. Everybody is different and some people need more sleep and some less. You need to decide how much is good for your own body. Lack of sleep is bad and too much sleep is bad. Just focus on your own body and see what is the optimal sleep time for yourself.

I don't think the article writer is serious when he is saying sleep is a disease. Probably just being controversial to get more hits to his article. Tactical marketing strategy.

Sleep deprivation is a very effective torture technique. After three days, you'll confess and give up any and all information your torturers want.

Having said that,I don't give a shit about "sleep is for the weak" and all that...I need my eight hours and if I don't get them, I'm one grumpy, lazy mofo.

I've made it a habit to go to bed before midnight and wake up at eight. I feel great and my productivity has increased dramatically.

Strolling along the web, I came across something interesting.

An interesting point of view, isn't it?

In the sense being used here, sleep is not addictive. "Addiction is the continued repetition of a behavior despite adverse consequences, or a neurological impairment leading to such behaviors.".

If in the case the person was sleeping constantly and wasn't wanting to get up and it was disrupting normal social behavior and became a disruption to the normality of his or her life, then it would be a problem of addiction. For being tired and your body needing to repair itself, it is not addictive but recovery.

I will sleep plenty when I am dead. I only get about 4 hours sleep. The older you become, the less sleep you need. Children need 10 hours of sleep because of their changing bodies.
