First of all, I do apologize if this is the wrong forum and would be happy to move it to wherever it fits as I actually don't know where to take it.

Now, one of my sites ranks literally for more than 100 keywords daily (11k+ so far), I push content on a daily basis yet only a handful of keywords have reached the 1st page and honestly my organic traffic is declining badly

a few days ago I hired a guy from Fiver to take a look and try to fix whatever the issue is, he came out and told me I had a penalty (?), we disavowed a couple of bad links and did a little bit of coverage fixture and I had to come here and ask the experts in the filed of what might be the issue? and is what I did enough? or even the right move?

The speed of the site: I hired more than 8 people of the past 6 months to try and fix the speed issue - its still not that great

Internal SEO: I think its perfect as I said the site really ranks for a lot of stuff, we do have a couple of issues that we're working on but yeah still

Is there anything I'm missing? I'm literally clueless at this point. why my site isn't pushing further in search engines? why with all of this visibility the organic traffic is going down? Is all of these stats worth it? or is it just for display?

I've reached a point that I might wanna sell it if I couldn't find a solution ( let me know if this is a bad idea lol)

Thanks in advance.

Don't sell it, first, because it's not generating money yet, so no one will pay a lot of money, and second, possibly with a little optimization or time all those keywords will rank.

Unfortunately I could not give you advice on what is wrong (if anything) without seeing the website.

How old is your site?
Are your articles written for long tail KWs or not?
Did you buy keywords or did you do the research yourself?
Difficulty of the niche?

I'm confused he said you had a penalty because of two bad links out of 50,000?

What does your backlink profile look like? Type of links, anchors etc

What does your content look like? All manual and unique? Or spun and machine generated?

Have you done a malware scan?

What percentage of pages appear when you do site:?

Thank you for your feedback,

The selling option was just out of desperation, to be honest, and yeah the site actually does generate money by selling a monthly service (not a lot but decent if I decided to sell and couldn't fix it)

1- The site is nearly 2-3 years old

2 & 3 - Actually we never did any keyword research or wrote an article based on any keyword, most of our authors just write random stuff as it's a general blog think of it as Medium (might this be the issue? )

4 - as said its a general magazine - we write about different topics and not one in particular although its mostly tech-related

if it is a wordpress then i can help u.. will send u a pm now

He sent me a list of "bad links" and told me I had a penalty and disavowing these links will hopefully fix it

the content is like 80% unique and well written but we do have more than 30k articles so the 20% is shown

Malware scan - No I haven't but I'm going to look into it if its this important

Number of indexed pages: About 13,900 results

if u have a penalty then u will never be ranked google's first page. the site needs to check carefully each thing one by one. then only can tell what is the matter here..

How about you push that website with niche edits and see if you will get some higher ranking keywords.

I think you're saying only about 30% of your content is indexed? Is that correct?

When people create content on your website is it on a subdomain or the base domain and can they make do follow links in the content? If they can then they may be posting crappy articles then tier 2 blasting them with GSA etc.

In terms of page speed can you show us some metrics like Google's page speed insights or GT metrix scores?

How many of those backlinks are natural? How many are paid and how many are built (comments/profiles)?

enter "yoursite.com" in google, if you're not on the first page, then you're penalised, if your site comes first then you have no penalty.

About slow page speed, it may be related to your hosting rather than on site speed optimization.
What kind of hosting are you using?

How about you push that website with niche edits and see if you will get some higher ranking keywords.
Thank you, Can you recommend a decent place where I can get some niche edits? I've never done it so I'm just reading about it now

Yes, about 30% of the content is indexed, how bad is this? considering the site gets a bunch of traffic from google news and discovery

- Yeah they publish directly on the main domain and can post do-follow links within the articles, this might be it actually but it'll take me ages to discover and delete those articles!

- Page speed insights:
screenshot-developers.google.com-2021.06.20-21_47_15.png
I know its not the best but this is as far as anyone I hired could do.

-Backlinks:

I never bought any links nor placed any (comments, profiles..etc) but some of the authors might've did not sure

How bad is the site coming off based on your experience?

Hi, I just did and my site came out as the first result on the first page but most of the results are other websites like Facebook,Pinterest..etc)

Does this mean I'm penalized?

Thanks

Cloudways they're not the best I'm telling you, but unfortunately moving the site to another host is going to need A LOT of resources as I've tried it once and failed terribly

Can you share a screenshot of how quickly the traffic has declined?

Also I've made the assumption you've checked gsc for errors and messages?

I'd do a few things.

1. See if you can use a CDN like cloud flare for speed
2. Check if people are tier 2 blasting and remove those links in gsc
3. Nofollow and UGC all user links globally
4. Check the deindexed content and look for patterns why. Eg spun, duplicate etc

I ran your site through ahref to see why you have 11k plus organic keywords, and your traffic is below 100. Well, you have less than 6 keywords ranking in the top 10. Less than 20 on the top 10 to 20.

And all these Keywords have an average of 50 monthly searches. And most of the KWs are strange. Unless you are targeting keywords with a minimum of at least 100+, and ranking on the top of Google. I don't see how your traffic will increase.

Backlinks

51.6K +2K

Recent 85.8K
Historical 237K

I may be wrong, but how are you going to clean any bad links here?

Thank you so much for the tips will do a full-on check on the one mentioned and yes I'm using Cloudflare but I still can't shake the speed.

Regarding the traffic, it wasn't very quickly like instantly but gradually with literally nothing changing but adding more content we even started publishing more and more original content

The traffic hit a peak of 30k last year and then out of the blue it started going downhill ever since even though we started publishing more original content and improved the SEO a lot ever since we still lost the majority of our keywords and traffic based on ahrefs which now says that we are gaining more than a 100 keywords a day (?)
Google analytic says that we started losing traffic in February this year

I'm actually so confused and don't know how bad is this or how good this is why I'm here

Don't want to put the link directly in here but you can find it in the alt of the images I attached if you wish to run a test yourself

again thank you for your feedbacks
