Sites Gone? Google Update? WTF

I sites are pretty bouncy right now. They are too new to tell whether this is G algo related or just dancing. I imagine they are just dancing.

One of my main sites dropped from mostly 2nd page (4 kw) to 5-7th page. That site is less than 2 months old so maybe my upcoming blast will take care of it (first time doing any link building).

Damn, until know only three of eight keywords targeted have been hit. Now two more completey dropped out of T100

what would make a site over SEO optimised? is there even such a thing?
 
Off topic I know, but my adsense earnings these past week or so start high then take two steps back and one step forward seemingly decreasing every 4 hours or so, only to eventually take a slightly bigger leap forward, traffic is down, CTRs are up...all very bizarre as are most things related to Google nowadays...

False.

Nothing that anyone else can do to your site can hurt its rankings.

If this were true, people would blast their competition with XRumer all day.

Here are the stats on my sites that dropped.

8 sites went from page 1 to page 10+ (some are not even in the top 1000).

These sites were all on the same shared Hostgator hosting.

I have at least one other site on that same shared hosting plan that is still on page 1.

All content is handwritten, nothing is spun, it is all high quality content and the average on page time is measured in minutes (because people are reading the high quality content).

I didn't do any linkbuilding that involved automation, spam, or spun content.

Backlinks are varied. I don't think overoptimization is the issue.

I noticed the sites had dropped this morning when my AdSense impressions were way down.

I don't think it has anything to do with spammy backlinks because I never did any of that on any of my sites. IMO, spammy backlinks were devalued months ago anyway

I also don't think it has anything to do with hosting, as I have at least 1 site on the same hosting plan on the same IP that is still ranking well

Same here. I pretty much do the same SEO for all my sites. There doesn't seem to be consistency in what is causing this drop.
 
How many time needed for rank again?based on your experience?

Before I leave and get back to actual work, rather than buying services from expensive sources, I just wanted to point out.
On page #7 right now is a site with 95% indexing rate on its backlinks, it has 17,000 different blogposts and permanent homepage links, and previously had spent, by my guess, $10,000/mth on backlinks. These are all very high end private networks.

The sites on page 1 for this extremely expensive term? Most have 1-2 redirects and <500 total backlinks in the last month.

So no, blog networks aren't the answer either for pricey, high end terms.
This site IS #1 on yahoo/bing for the term, but this term isn't that valuable over there versus the traffic it gets via google.

I really hope, this is some update or a Mega Dance because my site went from page#2 to top #3 and boom all of a sudden it's all gone from Google. Positions are firm on Bing and Yahoo actually they are good. I really hope they have not done something bad to it :(. I mean site is not deindexed I checked it with Site:MyDomain.

Seriously, If this is the case SEO is gonna be a lot harder than what it is now.

Too many people are seeing rank changes for it to be a coincidence.

A few sites bouncing in rank = Google Dance
Large number of sites complaining of drastic drop in rank = Algo Update.

We'll see a post about this, and any other changes they made this month in their early May blog post.

I don't really see a pattern here. The two most common things I see are WordPress sites and the domain is less than a year old.. Maybe domain age is the biggest factor here? I would expect to see a bunch of WordPress sites and domains that are less than a year old from a bunch of IM'ers, so not sure how related that is.

Maybe a new Google internet tripped over a power cable in one of their data center pods.... :)
 
Yes I agree the problem with that is I and others have new sites that are untouched even though most other factors are exactly the same.

I just created a new blog post on my affected site, changed the target keyword and used the same back link strategy as I have been. One thing I noticed is that my individual posts have a moderate KW density (around 2% give or take) but the main page has a mcuh higher KW density due to the number of posts (truncated) on the homepage. So while the posts themselves are at 1-3% the main page is at 7%!!! So this post should dilute it a bit. We will see what happens.

Well as being a user of google, when i search i see very crappy content now. I can say the recent changes seriously decreases search quality.
