Sites Gone? Google Update? WTF

A MNS of mine that had been at #3 for over a year dropped out of the top 1000 between yesterday-today :/

Is that sarcasm because if it is not that is very funny. I am still crying!

lulz no I really was pretty sad when I saw page 1 without me on it. Worked soooo hard to get there.

hahahaha I meant the no backlinking or taking any action. I am still lying to myself that the sites will recover. Not even in the top 1000 from 2 #1's

we need to face reality.... sites will probably not come back.

I had a shred of faith the entire time that some-most of the sites that got danced would indeed just be danced and not penalized or removed all together from rankings.

I still have a small army of other sites not back on their respective pages, But it's a start.

Give it a week or so, Google is doing some strange stuff. If the site is worth it just keep adding content.

Now that google decided that Adwords is more profitable than their other projetcs,we are fu****.

What if all these changes are not related to backlinks necessarily.I read all the pages in this thread and I saw some ppl rank with only the emd, some with a 404 page in the top 5, some with older or new domains, some ppl made backlinks and some not so I was thinking that google want's to rank sites in top 10 with the info they gather themselves.

Let's say they rotate a number of sites in the top 10 by the number of clicks a site gets from google, facebook, twitter,by the time a user stay on that page(and many other factors I don't know) ..the same way we rotate a multiple cpa offers with a source of traffic and keep the one that converts better. So they rotate a number of sites in top 10 ..keep the ones that passed their requirements like :

1.low bounce rate
2.a x number of minutes user stay on that page
3.if the user share that link on social sites and that site get viral
4.backlinks from authority sites
5.who knows what other factors..?

and then get rid of the sites who failed those criteria and fill the remaining places with other sites. This way they show results based on user interaction..sort of speak.

Now when they choose the sites that will be used in rotation they have to pass a serious of google filters (basically any form of link manipulation amr,sb,xrumer is bad).So from google point of view you don't rely so much on backlinks which can be easily gamed but more and more on user experience/interaction....which in the eyes of google is giving the user what it wants based on other ppl experience.

That's why ppl are seeing weird pages in top 10 (404,old domains with no content ,new posts from old domains...etc) and then after a x number of days they vanish.Of course they are testing all this stuff and eventually with all the info gathered they will create an ...new (interactive ) algorithm and replace the current one that is based on backlinks.

Disaster struck me as well.. I've been building a my own private aged pr net... and slowly dropping my link on there and was climbing the serps for a very competitive phrase - I was on page 2 and felt just a few more links to go..

now I'm nowhere in the top 800.. Still indexed.

but nofuckingwhere.

So I did have linkwheelbandit going on this KW but via a tier 2.
and I did another blog network similar to ALN again via Tier 2

also I have big g - analytics on (woops)

----- so now I'm wondering what fucked me.

1. Having analytics was a bad bad idea... should have switched to open source
2. Maybe Tier'd blasting is not cool anymore?
3. Or for new sites high pr + aged domains link drops need more link camouflage (lots of OBL -- going out to non-money sites)
this has cost me over 2k and I'm fucking pissed/angry/sad...

I think its important that we all share our methods for new sites.. because I'm at a loss right now

most of my sites arent even @ top 1000 :D

I don't know about you guys, but I build my sites to offer a great user experience and not to garner google traffic. When I write about a subject, I write articles that actually answer questions, have related pictures/diagrams that help with the context of the text and even create videos as well to backup what the article says. I'm very meticulous with my onsite seo : load time, proper meta data, canonical urls, etc. etc. etc.

As for backlinking, I find where my competitors are linking from and other sites in my niche and I figure out ways to get my links on there as well. Then I'll create some high quality sites that promote my main site (some web 2.0, but mostly other .coms that I buy), all hosted on the same server and what not.

I don't try to manipulate anything, rarely use any automated software and only use low quality links on 2nd tier sites.

None of my sites have been penalized, dropped in rankings or anything of the sort. I also rank for some very very competitive words.

^^^^posted on the wrong forum I believe.
lol, sounds like it doesn't it. But let's be honest, there are a TON of ways to game the system. And right now we're finding that the tried and true aint working for many of us. An algo switch has been adjusted (or readjusted) and now it's up to us to test, test, and test some more. What I'm NOT going to do is stop backlinking. What I AM going to do is keep building content for my sites and promoting the hell out of them. Since i service a ton of "offliners" for seo work, Google Places is even more of a focus now, so I've got to adjust for that too. It's all a big game folks, we don't set the rules..however, we do get to re-engineer what's going on and adjust accordingly.

I'm tracking eight sites that are mainly just being NHSEO'ed, most of them ranking #1 for a few terms, and only one term on one site had any significant drops in the past few days.

I don't think links are obsolete, when links are ranking before domains, that tells me g's onsite seo update is taking place, remember they were talking about about overoptimising seo. Is everyone using a wordpress site? Bingo! Could it be a wordpress plugin.

WTF is the purpose of this? We are giving them what they want...quality content, fresh content etc. and they still are doing this. Makes me want to get the hell away from SEO for good. Look at the peoples lives that are ruined because of this shit. I can see if the website sucks then ya but what about the authority ones that are getting hit? My offline business is #1 and its an authority. If I get hit I am sooooo fucked!

I'm still hoping it's just a lot of dancing and eventually most sites go back to something considered normal.
