Site was #1, all whitehat, de-indexed?

In the future, try building back links to your inner pages as well. About your main page, you are going to get a thousand different responses here. Google is very difficult to understand. Just trust your gut instincts and take action accordingly. Worst case scenario - learn from your mistakes.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with this but about 10 hours prior to the de-index I activated a new domain through godaddy and moved it to my shared hosting account with the domain that got de-indexed.
I havent done anything with the new domain yet other than post some content, no links.
Could that cause a temporary google hiccup?
Also... before the de-index my indexed backlink count was about 170, now its showing about half of that. Could that cause it?

Today I noticed something interesting.
Not sure where you are ranked at... but I had a site at #1 yesterday and now it's at 50 or so. I had another site with a page one ranking and now it is also at 50 - two completely different niches.
These sites have been here for months and months.
Usually when Google penalizes you or sandboxes a domain, you will get thrown into the 600's.
This looks like the same penalty because it is either a manual reviewer or some other indicator that these are thin affiliate sites.
But.. it looks like Google is now changing where they penalize me to. Interesting that it is in the 50's instead of 600's.
Oh well... I will just get my way back up there later today...

Yep, same thing happened to one of my sites.
I was ranked 12th and creating 10-15 backlinks per day Then jumped to 9th and the next day the site dissapears to 200. So I keep creating links and 4 days later I'm back at 9. Then I create a bunch more links and 4 days later it's at position #5
Then the next day it dissapears for 4 more days. Finally, it reappears, this time at position #3 and sticks there for 4 days. Then it dissapears and has been gone for a week now...
My home page is actually no longer indexed which is slightly worrying. But doesn't matter too much... just keep building links and you'll be back to the first page (and probably higher in the SERPS then you are now) in no time!

No kidding! Been two and a half days and still impatiently waiting. Luckily it is off season for my offer so Im not losing too much money!

Since yesterday 3 of my websites TOO went from 1 to page 5, exactly what happened to you as well. I think it might be 'over-optimization' of my webpages. I'm lowering my keyword density now and after that I will redirect the website with a 301 to a brand new domain.

Make sure it's not been hacked - it happens all the time. See the code (or View Source). Is there anything there that wasn't put there by you. Some hacks are obvious, full of v1agra, but others are just a js line at the bottom.
Otherwise... I'd relax. It's probably a help up for the start of the domain, Google way to encourage you - then back to reality. Build links, and wait - patience is needed.
