So my site has been ranked #1 in google for its main keyword on and off for about 3 months.

I have used whitehat only methods, article submissions, blog comments and forum profile links for offpage SEO.

All of a sudden, it has completely disappeared from google as of this morning.

How often does this happen to your websites?

The site is under a year old and PR 0... could this be the reason and google is just dancing it?

(my rankings have bounced between 1-5 before, but never disappeared.)

Ben

Google Dance most likely.. give it a couple weeks before you panic.

Are you deindexed, meaning 'site:domain.com' returns 0 results or were you pushed down in the rankings? If you're still indexed it's probably a google dance

The only thing that is missing is my index page.

All other pages are still in google besides my index/landing page.

Unfortunately, my index page recieves 99% of traffic.

Thoughts?

Ben

What did your index page consist of? Any sketchy black hat stuff? Affiliate links? Give us an idea of what was on the page so we can give a proper response.

Nothing sketchy, nothing blackhat, no aff links.

It was a long sales letter with a menu at the bottom linking to my on site articles.

Ben

Do you have adsense on your site? If you can still see the ads on your pages except for the index one then yes, your homepage got banned from google.

hmmm.... ok, go to google and type your domain name. If you get some "In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, " crap at the bottom of the page then you might have pages banned. If not then it must be a hiccup or dance and should be fixed by gathering more backlinks to your site

Nothing.

Would they ban an index page but not the whole site?

Ben

Yeah, if they get a DMCA they can ban the homepage, happened to me lots of times, lol

Just keep working on the site. If you had a strong #1 position before it should come back soon

Definitely nothing on my site that would cause a DCMA notice.

I'm sure google is just being funny. I will continue to build links and see what happens.

If it's Google Dance, then it should take a max of 7 days.

What you've described has happened to me before, and usually it was back to normal within 3 days.

Same happened to one of my site... it game back to first from second page. The index page wasn't indexed for months.. then bam, first.
This happened to me because i built too many links, too fast.. just look at what you did and you should know why it happened

long adverty 1 page sites with lots of links look like spam sites, even if they are not. best is to make the site look as legit and informative as possible.

What is considered too many links too fast?

I was only building about 10-20 a day and that is for a site that was already ranked #1 and had about 200 indexed backlinks.

Do you think that is too much?

Ben

i can tell you whats up right now...
you probably in a hard niche
aka financial, insurance, etc
AND/OR (most likely or)
you have a bad outgoing link from your home page.

you have a new domain - you cant be doing that.
most of your site will be dropped to page 17 while the front page is no where to be found. you are not deindexed, you are just in the shitbox

Like other members like here before, i also had the same problem. Subs still listed, but the main page disapperead...

Only only i did it after a major xrumer blast so it was obviously a happy dance... Not sure why your site is dancing around. Maybe a noob competitor thought to do some serious backlinking on you, trying to lower your rankings with only stricktly bad neighbourhoods?

Shitbox, Sandbox they all the same, 10-20 links a day isn't excessive so i'm sure thats not it.
