Site is gone! Was there another G update last night?

Some of my pages that rank well have only the keyword in the title and first paragraph. I aim for 0.5% keyword density or less now post penguin and they seem to be doing well so far. I hope it stays that way. Incoming exact match is only about 20%. I do use a lot of LSI keywords though.

Perhaps it's just a google dance. Everything your doing sounds about the same as me, except the keyword density, but I don't think that's the cause though cuz I have sites with higher keyword density too, and their also fine :S

my main keyword get back to #1 (after dropped to #3 due to Apr 20th update). Hope it's permanent, not dance :D

Here, let me help. Check your link profile. Discount deindexed/deleted links. Build backlinks until you have a 30% junk links - 30% brand links - 40% kw links - link profile. You'll get your rankings back soon enough.

I have never believed in keyword density - and therefore never really checked it. But it's sitting at 5.8% now on a 122,000,000 keyword and the sites still doing it's regular dance between #1 and #2.

My site is a an ecommerce travel site about a specific area, so it's virtually impossible to have a lower density than that.

My personal belief is that as soon as a site does well in google serps for high value keywords, then it gets a manual review

If your site has adsense, affiliate banners, etc. i.e. its trying to make money without being something like a dentist's site, tradesman's site, etc. it will get hit by manual reviewer

Do you honestly think G has enough manpower to review all the sites in the #1 position manually, for every keyword?

I do for the high value keywords. Google is going to want the cream of the crop on the first couple of pages, especially when it comes to things like ecommerce, health, home, etc. I don't know about anyone else's niche, but when it comes to things like shopping, big companies dominate the first couple of pages.

few position drops in my 1 site but other are ranking well in google I think in my case it just a normal google dance

I would agree that large corporations have overtaken product searches for organic listings, even though many are not as relevant and consumer friendly as what was once there. Information listings I monitor also have increased Wikipedia dominance.

It seems like Google just gave up on trying to rank based on relevancy and instead gave more algorithmic weight to big brands. Small businesses are getting pushed off a cliff with each algorithm tweak Google makes.

I don't know why KW density is on everyone's radar right now. Penguin was "the webspam" update. It is purely for offsite SEO related purposes.
If your rankings have dropped in a weird way, it was probably a manual review of your site.
BTW one of my main sites average KW density is >12%. It cannot be helped but it is very natural. My rankings are perfect.

I agree with you. I once watched a webinar that had the person who was number 1 for the keyword shoes. When he became number 1 for that word, he made millions of dollars. I have heard of every company and or brand on the first couple of pages of Google if I put in the word shoes. It wasn't always that way.

Update: I adjusted my KW density immediately site wide after the drop in ranking from page 1 to page 38 I also added a couple legit backlinks here and there and today my site is back! It's actually ranking higher than before for a few KW's

Any ideas? Did adjusting the KW density from 2.5-3% down to 1% really recovery my site?

About 30 or so. I checked several KW and I'm ranking better than ever. I'm not smoking past my last spots but I'm now on page one for KW's I was on page 3 before so it's pretty cool..

So the KW density really is key?
