Singing the Firefox 3 Blues.

How many of you are using Firefox 2 still? If you are you are so lucky! I "upgraded" to Firefox 3 and now almost all my plugins don't work.If you use your browser for work, and you did download Firefox 3, let me know how you're getting by these days.

It's like the depression all over again and I wasn't even born then. But now I know what it must have been like, because Firefox is putting 3 million of us starving for some solution. If you want to gripe, I made a little story on my blog (signature tag). Post here, post there and see how we're all getting along now being "degraded" with Firefox's cruel and unusual punishment as we sing the "Firefox 3 Blues."

Not that I use many plugins but the ones that I use are working fine ..

Mine are working fine for now at least too. For some reason Google's web pages don't display correctly though.

I am using both Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 grace to the PortableApps.com.

I was careful with updating, I like to keep a piece of the old version before I am fully satisfied with the new one.

Only a few plugins I use were not upgraded yet to version 3, but every day I get some plugin updates. Patience, and third party plugin developers will come up soon with the new versions.

If you have the urge to use the old version, just download Firefox Portable version 2.0.14 and have all your old plugins working fine with it. (Portable version doesn't need any install, it works from any directory)

Firefox isn't going to release the final version of version 3 until later in the summer at the earliest. It really doesn't matter if you are just browsing the web. But if you work on the web and use the plugins I use for productivity, you can see right away after just six hours how much Firefox has made your life less productive and more costly for you.

For instance, what about session recovery, or Tabs Plus? Yes there are great leaps in fixing memory leaks, scanning for virsues before downloading, but that's about it. There's very little in new features. It's more of "Hey look at this?" Like it was something new, when in fact only a handful of plugin developers were even interested in creating upgraded or new plugins for Firefox 3.

The reason is it isn't even the final release! It's a beta release! And now we are stuck with it, because no one is serious about I.E. anyways. That's my gripe.

i run my web browsers from directories, so i don't have any real problems with ff3. one thing i know is to always keep your old programs before switching to the latest version. just 'cuz it's the latest version never guarantees that it will work better than last years model.

my current theme is "noia" and it hasn't been upgraded since mid 2007. so i know that it will never come out for ff3. as for plugins...

1. fasterfox.
2. stumble upon.
3. google icons.
4. adblock pro.
5. quick java.

all running on ff 2.0.0.1.4.

i will likely delete ff3 and stick with ff2, since i rarely use it.

Well, it's the first time Firefox has put me at a disadvantage, but I suppose it's like anything in business. Eventually, they think after years of service, they're justified in putting out a dog product now and then and everyone will forgive them later.I just don't get it. What was the rush anyways? maybe Safari was eating too much into their market.

When you think about Apple coming out next month with a huge 24 country push, are people really thinking Apple will let anything but Safari run on Apple IPhones? Ithink Safari wil continue to errode the browser market. Add to this all those pretty Apple laptops, which women really go for. Since they run dual OS's, maybe thsi has been knawing at Firefoxe's feet. And maybe thsi is why they are tripping up so bad and falling on their face. Apple finally did what I.E. couldn't do. Out marketed Firefox in market positioning by creating hardware which uses a faster and thinner browser.

However, I wouldn't look at Safari as a working web person's browser of choice by a long shot.

You're so lucky. I'm getting buy. It's like using a Firefox 5 years ago with version 3. It's that bad.

Thank you Essential Clix for that. Here's the crux. Some of the plugin developers like Pic Lens have already switched over to version 3. So if I install version 2, I will not be able to reinstall the version 2 plugins, because they are not available for downloading. This is the problem.

What I really need is Firebug. To which alot of web designers use to fix website issues for clients. I'm going to check to see if I can get a stand alone copy if they have one. It's an incredible plugin. You can mouse over any website and it reports any problems immediately including download speed. As well as what lines in any code are used for any part of the website down to the pixel. It's like Adobe CS3 is for images what Firebug is for website fixing.

For now, everyone who has Firefox 3 knows what I am talking about. we are in the eye of the storm. We can't go back and we have to grin and bare it until the plugin developers upgrade. To which they won't do any time soon, because the latest version is a beta version and not a final release. Thanks just the same.

Yes thats what I did.

Before installing 3 I saved my bookmarks. Tried to install 3 and most of the plugins would not work and the bookmarks did not transfer automatically (I could have still loaded the newly saved bookmarks manually). But because I need the plugins I uninstalled 3 and reinstalled 2. The bookmarks and all the plugins worked right away just like I never tried to install 3.

Hm. I use a bunch of SEO plugins, fireftp, video downloaders and auto-fillers, and they all seem to be working OK for me, no prob in the transition at all. I like FF3 a lot.

That sound promising. It looks like it depends on which plugins each of us are using.

I'm going to look again at some other plugins. If you go to Mozilla's add-on website, you will see at least half of the plugin download buttons have been ghosted white, making them unclickable. Until the plugin developers upgrade.
It looks really weird.

Keeps crashing on me. I think it's just Windows. Thinking about getting me a Mac. Can't stand fuckin Windows anymore

You're right, because computers have never been a consumer product until Apple made the new mac last year. The problem is what Apple has always been about. Limited choice, whatever they offer you is only what you get. and to charge third party developers huge licensing fees in order to be able to provide software to their Apple Kingdom. Developer's are always at their mercy.

But for the consumer, it will cost more always because of this. I'm not too sure how it will all roll out with Mac versions of Internet Marketing Software. Ever wonder why they hesitate when you ask them for Mac versions? This looks like one major problem for software sellers wanting to enter the Apple Kingdom.

It has always been this way since the beginning of Apple. It's the reason Gates made a fortune. He made software that worked on several hardware configurations. He too was greedy for over a coule of decades until Linux tuned him in and he had to hand out source code for developers.

But not Apple. Which is why they almost went belly up in the face of Linux. If Gates hadn't stepped in and made up with Jobs, Linux would have ruled the planet's OS world. But now with money injected into Apple's Innovation Machine, thanks to Uncle Bill in 2000 I believe. Apple could create it's own in-house software for it's in-house computers without asking anyone.

This has been the game plan of Gates and Jobs all along. And now with the new iPhone being launched next month, it looks like their ten year goal may very well have us all bowing to Jobs and Gates. These guys think just like Exxon. Give them cheap computers and in-house software. Then when there are just a handful of computer operators, increase the licensing price.

If the world isn't Microsoft, it's Apple in the consumer market. Wait another half a decade. It won't matter anymore. Microsoft even has a website they operate under to make it seem like they are open source. If Linux wasn't around, these two would make sure we all paid dearly for our pcs.

Only in 1984 was a Mac near the price of a car! Jobs can't wait for that day to roll around again. Our only edge is the world is alot bigger place than it was then. In September, China will roll out a Iphone Clone with more features and $80 dollars cheaper than the Apple suggested price of next month's iPhone at $200. No the world is far from friendly and these two are only biding their time. Just like Exxon did.

The only thing we can do is make more money and save up for the inevitable. Computers at the price of cars with licensing rights to make sure we always are paying them forever. Jobs and Gates have been gaming us for sometime now. So I don't feel bad when we game them right back, by not hosting on MS Servers. And the choice as a consumer is really clear, it's Apple. For Internet Marketers its Microsoft's Windows. It's better now, but hardly a consumer product with so many things going wrong.
