People say it's so simple to use wordpress, but I just can't figure out how to work it.

I bought a url and a host. I logged into hostgator's cpanel, and used fantasico to install wordpress.

Now I want to edit my site, but it seems there is no visual editor on hostgator. I'm guessing I use wordpress to edit the website.

I can't find the login anywhere. Not on the website, or anywhere on hostgator cpanel even though I just installed it.

Googling told me to enter "mysitename.com/wp-admin"

    Doesn't work.

I have no idea what to do.

Go to yourdomain/wp-admin and enter your user name and password. Rest is very easy. Let me know if you need further help.

    example.com/wp-admin

Are you sure you installed it in the base directory?

you also might have to delete the previous default.html or index.html in your base directory

Did you leave the install to directory box blank? Meaning Wordpress appears in the root of your domain? If you entered something in this box without reading it properly you will need to do yourdomain.com/whateveryouput/wp-admin

Try going back to Fantastico, deleting the WP installation and starting again, make sure you read everything.

I have googled it, and tried many methods. Nothing is working.

I uninstalled it, and reinstalled it using two different guides, and they both didn't work for me, I still get the error when trying to type in "mywebsite/wp-admin".

Can someone walk me through what I'm supposed to put into each field of the hostgator fantastico install?

Sounds like a simple problem, so shouldnt be too hard to work out. As stated above make sure your name servers are set at your hosting. On top of that, try searching youtube for basic things like "set up wordpress" or "install wordpress" or "configure wordpress" and you'll hit a ton of information. I know you said you searched google, but seeing it in a video can help 100 times more.

    April,
But this has nothing to do with the ease of difficulty of using Wordpress! It's a technical issue (login) that your host should help you get resolved. Once you login, you'll see that Wordpress is the easiest way to make a site or blog (compared to other CMS systems or site building tools).

If you are still facing problem then check first of all whether your site is opening or not...

I mean do you see anything when you open domain.com, if not then you may got issue with your DNS go to your domain registrar and update it there... Point it to your hosting account, you must have got name servers when you signed up for hosting.

If you are able to see your domain load (in start it will display blank page with cgi-bin folder)... Then go ahead and install wordpress, don't put anything in directory box if you want to install it in root directory... If still you are unable to login there then use hostgator chat support and they will solve problem for you... They support is very good...

Do a search for Matt Wolfe and Wordpress Tip of the Day. Also do a search for Erics Tips (Eric Holmlund) and Become a Blogger ( this site uses WP2.6 but the videos are still very useful as there all sorts of goodies in there).

These four sites will step you through everything you need to do in a slow and step by step manner. Don't get frustrated. Open two windows and follow each step literally by stopping and starting the videos as you do each step. You will need to stop and start several times but its worth it.

Have to fully agree with bizroot that Hostagtor are superb for support using their chat line. And by the way some of your passwords should have come to you in an email.

I entered my domain. It's fine. It says it's registered to me, and that it hasn't been edited yet, which is correct.

One of the guides said that you get a direct link to the wordpress page when you install. Even that link would not work for me.

    I'll try youtubing it.

Sounds like you may have installed it in a sub-folder on your website. Try yourdomain.com/blog/wp-admin or yourdomain.com/wordpress/wp-admin and see if anything comes up.
