Hi I've downloaded some Shutterstock pics off the pirate bay. They are pirate obviously. If I were to use them in some ebooks or on my blog can Shutterstock tell I didn't pay for them? How would they know I didn't have a Shutterstock account under another name?

no the worst that happens is you will get a cease and desist from them to pull the photo or pay for it.
 
I think that the Shutterstock will never find out that you wasn't paid for that photos.
 
You can use Google Imaged....just select 'free to use and share' option in the advanced setting option ;)
 
There are a few ways they can identify the images, 3 of which are through the following:

  • Meta data contained in the image (you may have noticed this with Shuttershock images when you upload them to Wordpress; some of the data fields are automatically filled in)
  • Copyright Nazis (People who patrol the Internet reporting what they suspect to be copyrighted content).
  • The owners doing a reverse image search.
There are probably other ways that they find the images, although these are just a few that I could think of.
 
Just use free image sites like Pixabay and save yourself the potential trouble of getting into legal trouble.

Remove shutterstock easily by photoshop and use the photos
 
Well, if you are caught doing this, you will be asked to tell shutterstock about the account you have on shuttorstock and later they will ask you the payment invoice for the image.
You will be penalized and maye sued also.

Unless caught, use it without caring. LOL not recommended
 
they could detect meta in the photos, but i doubt it if you strip the meta out. if they are unique by an artist and only on their site then yes you'll get caught, if not then i doubt it
 
when you are a big corporation and have a pretty good income as an ecommerce site, buy your own photos.
 
They probably won't be able to tell easily but they probably could if they wanted to. I guess it depends how big you think the ebook will be - if you are going to make a lot of money from it then it would be silly using stolen images because you would risk losing that income/being sued if you get caught.

You can also use Google images as said above to find royalty free images, or sites such as Pixabay.com where you can get loads of royalty free images - also very high quality stuff.
 
Yes, they might know it and FBI could come to your house and seize and deceased everything
