Most of my visitors find my site via web results so I want to block images in robots.txt to save crawl budget. Is there any harm for doing so?
Should we noindex images?

Im not in the SEO game but ive never heard of this before.
Personally i want my images indexed, because they have the potential to bring you traffic.
But crawl budget...like... Do you pay google to crawl your site so you wanna reduce your expenses? Lol

Google allocates a smaller crawl budget for relatively new sites
This is kind of an expense as it consumes their resources
Think of it this way. Google sends spiders to crawl
But these spiders don't work for free

The fun part is the "crawl budget business'.
I never in my life have heard something like that, which Google never discloses publicly.
I'm content though for fact, and awestruck at the same time!
It's a the century of great glory!
Marketers these days are thinking ahead on how GG can effectively save on Indexing and Crawling costs done purely by G-bots.
Keeping that aside, I think you will do just great keeping the pictures as it is.
Some of us are inclined to optimize pictures in the hopes of landing extra traffic, which is another way of adding into your blogs true potential.

Google doesn't actually crawl pics as the normal or separate web pages,
It's the same case for CSS, JS and they're only used and included within the page content,
So, by blocking any of these or different files you'll just prevent google from getting a part of the crawled pages/content,
Overall, that won't save you any crawl budget, but will actually let the pics appear as broken for google

You could be getting visitors from google images. I don’t know, there’s no need to block your images.

Imagine Google is a human being who stumbled upon such broken image. That will suck.
OP, there's no point blocking images.

Cloaking is one way to save crawl budget. You don't need to noindex your images....if they aren't there to begin with.

Google does not crawl images as distinct web pages; the same is true for CSS and JS, which are only utilized and incorporated inside the page content.
By blocking any of these or other files, you are just preventing Google from accessing a portion of the pages/content that has been crawled.
Overall, this will not save you any crawl expenditure, but it will make the images look to be broken to Google.

No need to no-index images imo... I mean how many pages do you have that makes you consider that crawl budget might be an issue?
Honestly I have never set no-index on images to any projects during about 5+ years as I have never seen the need, im interested to know if it does cause harm tho but I wouldn't do a case study on your money site
