I'm creating a site where most of the content will be user-generated from blogs and forums. It will act as a political news/opinion site.

Right now I'm going with Wordpress but I'm interested in WordpressMS. With WordpressMS users will be able to create their own blog instead of just authoring the primary blog. However, I'd like blog content to be selectively integrated into the index page. With WordpressMU, is such a set-up possible or will it be hindered by the separate blogs?

I guess I'm asking: which is better for a multi-user site: Wordpress or WordpressMU?

Ideally users would be able to post their own content but only approved content would be promoted. What would be the best way to manage this?

If I understand what your trying to do I would suggest a forum setup. Look around where you are at right now. Imagine the possibilities. :)

I think a forum setup would be much easier to maintain then a WPMU site.

Thanks. I intend to have a forum but it will be in a separate section of the site. I need the blog setup, losing the article/blog system isn't an option tbh.

Basically, I want a blog where users can post their own articles but only promoted ones get to the homepage, and all users can create a blog. Similar to alternet .org

Anyone else? I'm just curious as to what the best method for this network would be, ideally to simulate the example site above.

I think you should give it a try to WordpressMU. If you are going to install multiple sites then you should use the WordpressMS. However, I think you should first research a little bit on these plugins and then make a decision.

I'll play around with it a bit. Anything a newb to MS should know?

Okay, related question. Would it be best to:

1) have a single blog users could write to
2) have individual blogs for all users with content that could be promoted
3) have several blogs on the same domain name, topically separated, with content that can be approved

Feedback appreciated.

I had the same idea once but never got the time to inplement it. I had a little research going on at tghat time.

My suggestion is to have a look at wpmudev.org. They have got all the tools that you will need for such a site

I think someone recently shared all their plugins here in some thread in the download section
