Should I start a blog with WordPress?

I've been willing to get my hands wet and start executing on a few projects, however they all require me to create a landing page / website.

For context, I've already made websites before but the design / front-end part is my weakness.

As of today, I have 2 options:

  • Learn front-end development in the small amount of time I have leftover from working / social life (2 months).
  • Create a WordPress website and get started ASAP on all the projects I've been wanting to execute on.
Do you recommend WordPress in general?

How do you find a good theme to get started? Do you usually pay for premium themes?

Thanks in advance for any help you may give me.

Yes, it's the easiest way for people like me who don't like programming and don't want to waste time and money.
Plugins help a lot as well.

How do you find a good theme to get started?
Well, it takes me some time. Basically, I find what I like and then adjust it for my needs.

Do you usually pay for premium themes?
Yes. Free ones are too limited.

You should definitely consider WordPress it's easy to use and there are a ton of different themes and plugins you can use to customize your blog and make it look exactly how you want Plus there are tons of resources out there to help you get started with WordPress
WordPress is definitely a great option
 
Given that you have minimal experience in front end work, I’d say Wordpress is your best bet. It’s the easiest to:

- update content frequently.
- change/modify the overall design & implement new features very easily.
- Implement on-page SEO & several other social related features.

How would you go about finding a good theme? Do you search other websites until you find one that you like?
Or do you search inside the WordPress theme section?

I used themeforest (I think). Then I got tired of this way.
So installed avada (too heavy) and basically... went through other websites and saw what I liked and didn't like.

One option is to search other websites until you find one that you like

Whichever method you choose make sure to take your time and look through a variety of themes before making your final decision

Because it requires very very little coding experience and allows you to build based on your needs.

First start with any free Wordpress theme to learn about Wordpress before moving on to premium themes.
 
I would suggest that you start with WordPress.

Unless you're sure that your idea will take off immediately and will scale up to the point that WordPress cannot support it, stick with a tried-and-proven solution.

If you're looking for a tried and proven content management solution, very few can compete with WordPress.
 
I am personally not a big fan of WordPress since its super bloated, I prefer HTMLy or Bludit

Ghost seems to also be very good, but I don't have experience with it.

And developing and maintaing your own CMS is a pain in the ass, but it can be a great way to learn a new skill if you are open to it.
