You answered your own question. Once you think about quitting you might as well quit. Asking people on a forum if you should quit, is basically already showing me that you have already given up.

You can work 9-5 job and do IM at the same time. 9-5 is just 8 of 24 hours a day.
I think you should quit if you are doing illegal that cause you to have problems.

In order to succeed you need to have a burning desire...
...a desire so hot that it cannot leave you alone whether you are going to sleep or time of waking up.
Feelings triggers actions.
A burning desire, with decision, a plan, faith and persistence comes the success.
So if you don't have a burning desire, you are missing the very first ingredient of success.
Get out of internet and close your eyes and imagine what are you doing IM for? Bring the heat.

You never used full stop even in your original post.. then why you think about quitting from?
Working 9-5 doesn't matter in your success.. people working on 9-5 wont be rich at all.. concentrate on your work.. love your work.. worship your work.
