I think we should create a new current of online marketing based on innovative, sneaky ideas of making money that do not involve defrauding companies and that do not involve the risk of getting banned by such companies . We could choose a different colour, redhat marketing.
No doubt Nick, that's a great focus to have. Where the quality is good so you can sustain campaigns but the methods are more crafty in how to get consumers interested and purchasing or completing tasks.
I can see this being broken down into a few major components:
1.
Aesthetics- Using creatives and styles that really pull people in, with the mediums available in this day you can make some pretty eye catching banners, flash, etc. Push the envelope and see what you can get approved on certain advertising platforms.
2.
Control of your market- Use demographics and targeting based on the type of people that would buy a certain product/service( targeting orprah.com for acai offers, geo specific offers off of geo-targeting).
3.
Understanding cpa- Understanding principles of a network, everything that goes on, why it exists, figuring out whether you actually need to work with them or not and which position will be best for you; advertiser or publisher.
I think this will involve working with advertisers more closely, or maybe you are the advertiser. I can see getting away with more that way, vs dealing with an affiliate manager or intermediary who are concerned about compliance. The business itself is dirty, most of the high epc products/services involve some sort of deception to begin with and prey on consumer's weaknesses. I don't have a problem with that because they are going to do it anyway and I think I should benefit from their whimsical stupidity. This kinda takes an understanding(loathing

) of our culture, consumerism, in order to manipulate it.
So yeah I second innovative ways in order to trick people into thinking they are getting something else, getting something more, "real" believable stories, controlling purchasing decisions based off marketing triggers, being an imposter, etc.
To have a thinktank about this kind of marketing would be beneficial to me and others I think. So I would go to a marketing conference or a meetup about that.
